INSTRUCTIONS: Answer question one and any other two questions

QUESTION ONE (30 MARKS)

a) Using diagrams, describe how the epidemiological triangle differs from the web of
causation (6 marks)

b) Differentiate between an emerging disease and re-emerging disease (4 marks)

c) Define the following terms used in disease causation

i. Necessary cause (2 marks)

ii. Sufficient cause (2 marks)

iii. Component cause (2 marks)

iv. Primary case (2 marks)

v. Index case (2 marks)

d) An epidemiologist studies the occurrence of disease and other health related events in a
population with an aim at control and prevention. In line with this, identify any six
activities and epidemiologist is involved in (6 marks)

e) Briefly describe the four types of epidemiological information useful for influencing
public health policy and planning and in individual decision making (4 marks)

b) Discuss any 3 methods of data collection (6 marks)
