CHRIST COMPELLING COMMISSION FOR ALL CHRISTAINS
MARK 6:15-16
This study reminds us of Christ’s compelling commission for all christian: Go ye into all the world and
preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that
believeth not shall be damned. Although many believers are not familiar with the great commission
they do not even obey it.
Luke 6:46 ‘’why do you call me , Lord, Lord; and do not do what I say’’ (NIV Bible ).
‘’Why are you so polite with me, always saying Yes, sir, and that’s right, Sir, but never doing a thing I
tell you”(MSG Bible).
We must reflect on how well we have obeyed this command.
The Lord wants us to be ‘’doers of the word, and not hearers only’’. the person who accepts, believes,
embraces and obeys God’s word, ‘’and continueth therein,……. shall be blessed in his deeds’’.
James 1:22-25.
POINT 1
THE PARTING COMMISSION OF CHRIST TO ALL CHRISTAINS (Mark 16:15)
‘’Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature’’ (KJV).
‘’Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the message of God’s good news to one and all’’
(MSG Bible). These are the last words He spoke before He went to heaven. This commission is for ALL
believers who are born again and are beneficiaries of God’s grace.
There are three things to note:
A) PREACH THE GOSPEL TO EVERY CREATURE
The command and commission to “preach the gospel to every creature. It is very clear, simple and
straightforward. We must tell those we come across, interact with and see regularly or occasionally of
the Gospel. Our preaching should be about the suffering, death and resurrection of Christ on the
third day. Also, ‘’REPENTANCE AND REMISSION OF SINS SHOULD BE PREACHED IN HIS NAME’’ (Luke
24:46-47).
Note
The Gospel is the reason for our salvation. Therefore, we must preach it to get sinners convinced to
come to Christ, the Lord. We must inform them that ‘’with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:8-11)
Note
Every one who hears the word, believes the Lord and completely lean on Him for salvation will be
saved.
B) PROCLAIM HIS GRACE TO ESTABLISH CONVERTS
Believers must proclaim the grace of God to establish converts. To criticize sinners for their sin, fault
or evil practices cannot lead them to Christ for salvation. Instead, we should present Jesus Christ to
them as the cure for and means for conversion. We must let them know that grace recreates them in
Christ unto God’s acceptable good works (Eph 2:8-10) “For by grace are Ye saved through faith; and
that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God not of Works, lest any man should boast. For we ARE HIS
WORKMANSHIP CREATED IN CHRIST JESUS UNTO GOOD WORKS, which God hath before ordained
that we should walk into them’’ (GIV).
‘’No , we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. ‘’He CREATES each
of us by CHRIST JESUS TO JOIN HIM IN THE WORKS HE DOES, THE GOOD WORK HE HAS GOTTEN
READY for us TO DO, WORK WE HAD BETTER BE DOING’’ (MSG Bible).
Because new converts do not know about righteousness, godliness, sobriety and humility. It is our
privilege and responsibility to tell of the result of God’s grace (Titus 2:11-12).
‘’for the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men’’. Telling us that, denying
ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and Godly in this present world
(KJV).
‘’God’s readiness to give and forgive is now public. Salvation is available for everyone. We’re being
shown how to turn our backs on a godless, indulgent life, and how to TAKE ON GOD-FILLED, GOD-
HONORING LIFE. ‘’This new life is start right now’’ (MSG).
C) PROVIDE GUIDANCE TO EDIFY THE CONVERTS
Acts 2:41 ‘’Then they that gladly received his word were baptized; and the same day there were
added unto them about three thousand souls’’. through the congregation of believers, we provide
guidance, enlightenment, edification and the means of growth for new converts. Here in our branch
church we run ‘’AREA FELLOWSHIP CENTRES’’. An assemblage of our members within close proximity
in designated areas where we have concentration of our established members. These area fellowship
centers serves as our fellow-up structures and more of our evangelism instrument (Acts 20:20).
An individual soul winner can provide the Gospel but not the fellowship or congregational worship of
the body of Christ. ‘’NEW CONVERTS SHOULD NOT FEEL ISOLATED’’. Therefore, we must bring them
to the congregation or the area fellowship centers as the case maybe, so that they can continue
‘’steadfastly in the apostles doctrines and fellowship, and in breaking of bread and prayers’’. (Acts
2:42).
By so doing, they will be ‘’builded together for an habitation of God through the spirit’’ (Eph 2:20-22).
‘’He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation’’. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by
brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it
taking shape day after day- a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is
quite at home (MSG).
God adds to the church on daily basis when we develop capacity and care for the believers, establish
them in the apostles doctrine, build them into the body of Christ, fit for God’s dwelling by his spirit.
(Acts 5:14) ‘’And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women’’.
‘’Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number
(NIV).
Note
As we prayerfully teach, care and establish upon the foundation of the Lord, the people God has given
unto us, He will add to our number, MORE AND MORE.
VISITATION AND FOLLOW UP
Acts 15:35 ‘’And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, let us go again and visit our brethren in
every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do’’. Everyone that has
the ministry of evangelism must also have the ministry of visitation and follow up. This followup is the
effort of soul winners at conserving, ensuring that the souls that are saved are integrated into the
local church. The great commission given by the Lord Jesus Christ is so clear. This visitation is the
responsibility of all who are truly born again and received Jesus as Lord and Personal saviour. What
are the results of following up new converts?
1) It will give us steadfast and strong believers
2) It will give us steady and healthy growths of the believers
3) It will bring fervent commitment to evangelism in the local church.
4) It will prevent backsliding.
A) THE PURPOSE OF FOLLOW-UP AND VISITATION
Acts 15:36 ‘’Some days after’’ this means we must not allow the time between when we first
ministered to the people to be too long before we visit them.
Acts 18:22-23 ‘’And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went
down to Antioch.
And after he had spent some time there, he departed, and went over all the country of Galatian and
Phrygis in order, STRENGTHENING all the disciples- we go back to them so we can strengthen the new
converts just as mothers strengthens their new babies with breast milk, care and protection. Many of
the new converts don’t know where to read in the bible to minister to their new found faith so they
need YOU and I to help them.
John 21:14 ‘’This is the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples after that he was risen
from the dead’’. Why did he do that? To strengthen their faith. ‘’Third time’’ Have you visited some of
these new converts? You visit them to strengthen them because their new faith will be challenged
and prosecuted. Jesus strengthened His disciples ahead of the prosecution that awaits them in the
Acts of the Apostles.
John 20:19 ‘’Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were
shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, ‘’came Jesus and stood in the midst,
and saith unto them, peace be unto you’’
Why did he come to them at this time?because they were fearful. New converts, many of them are
fearful. What will my club members say. What about the oath and what will my leaders say?
They might become fearful and lock themselves up. When you visit them at a moment such as we
described above and minister the word of God to them, they will be strengthened.
V20 ‘’And when he had so said, he showed unto them his hands and his side. Then were disciples
glad, when they saw the Lord’’.
This is one of the benefits of visitation in the midst of that consideration, should I give up this new
faith or should I continue in this faith and there you are to strengthen him.
V24 ‘’But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other
disciples therefore said to him, we have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, except I shall see in his
hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his
side, I will not believe.
Note
If you visit a group of new converts or a new family converted to your church and one is not around
who maybe a major character among them, what do you do? You go back another time. That’s why
we are reading verse 26.
V26 ‘’And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus,
the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, peace be unto you. ‘’Then said he to Thomas,
Reach hither thy fingers, and behold my hands and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side:
and be not faithless, but believing and Thomas answered and said unto him, my Lord and my
God’’.You can see how direct and precise the Lord Jesus was in his visitation. He went straight to the
point of Thomas’s unbelief.
John 21:1 ‘’This is the third time Jesus visited his disciples. After these things Jesus showed himself to
the disciples at the sea of Tiberias, and on this wise showed he himself. There were together Simon,
Peter and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathaneal of Cannan in Galilee, and the sons of zebedee, and
two other of this disciples. ‘’Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They saith unto him, we also
go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately and that might they caught
nothing’’. After the second visit where Thomas, Didymus reassured himself and called Jesus his Lord
and God, discouragement set in and they went back to their old way to fish.
Note
When new converts miss services, don’t take it for granted. It might be that he/she has returned to
his/her old way
If the new converts are discouraged and the evangelist likewise discouraged, it will be
discouragement plus discouragement equals discouragement. Jesus was not discouraged and so you
must not be discouraged.
V14-15 ‘’This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself tohis disciples, after that he has risen
from the dead.
Romans 1:9 ‘’For God is my witness, whom I serve with spirit in the gospel of his son, that without
ceasing I make mention of you, ALWAYS in my prayers.
Note
Why did he need to pray? Bringing the soul of the converts before God in prayers which is the secret
of effective visitation and fellowship.
V10 ‘’making request, if by any means now at least, I might have a prosperous journey by the will of
God to come unto you’’
Note
Paul was a very busy man with loaded daily schedules just as we are in today’s life, yet he prayed to
God to help him manage his many activities and still be able to reach his new converts. We also really
need to pray to God to help us to handle our personal schedules without sacrificing God’s calling and
our responsibilities to our converts.
V11 ‘’For I LONG to see you, that I may IMPART UNTO YOU SOME SPIRITUAL GIFTS, to the end ye
may be ESTABLISHED’’.
Note
Why must we visit and followup new converts?
1) That I may impart unto you some spiritual gifts. When we meet the new converts, our aim is to
teach and strengthen them with brief and relevant teachings from the bible as it relates to either their
questions or by the direct leading of the Holy Spirit.
2) To the end, ye may be ESTABLISHED. This is very important and the primary reason for our
visitation. We must make this stand out in our visitation.’’ To the end that I may establish them’’.
CONVERSION INTO STEADFAST SONSHIP
John 1:42 ‘’And he brought him to Jesus and when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son
of Jona. Thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone’’.
Here we are going to look into how we convert the seeming unstable new convert into a steadfast
and dependable believer. Jesus never see people as they are at convert-ion, he sees them as they will
be when he would have discipled them and brooded upon by the power of the Holy Spirit. We must
learn to see people the way Jesus sees them. Looking into the new man in Christ ‘’Thou shall be called
Cephas, which is by interpretation, a ‘’STONE’’ steadfastness, dependable and reliable.
How they come to Jesus
John 6:36 ‘’all that the Father giveth me shall come to me, and him that cometh to me I will in no wise
cast out.
This was the confidence of Andrew when he brought peter to Jesus. He knew that if he brings him to
Jesus, he will not reject him. This is our calling and responsibility to go into all the world and bring
sinners to him. The sinners have been given to Jesus by the finished work of the cross but the sinners
does not know this. We must go to them and bring them to Christ.
SHARING HIS LOVE ONE STEP AT A TIME
John 3:16
This love of God is so deep, so wide and so high. We cannot bring it all at a time. We will show and
teach the Love of God. How do we share this inexhaustible love?
When we speak to anyone?
(A)
CONFIRM YOR LOVE BY FOLLOWING CHRIST
If you are going to share the love of Christ with your convert, you must have tasted the same.
John 1:43 ‘’The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him,
Follow me’’. Here Christ found Philip and despite he is so high and mighty, he humbled himself and
spent time with Philip. When we move around, we should lookout for persons as lead by God to
spend time with them and invite them to follow you to Christ.
Remember that the Lord is not here physically.
See what it means in John 8:11 ‘She said, no man Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I
condemn thee go, and sin no more’. You must let them no that following Christ means no more can
any man condemn them and that every condemnation before now is broken. Even Satan cannot
condemn them. Your past actions can not condemn you, your old partners in sin cannot condemn
you.
Note
The words of Jesus always carries power. When the blind man came to Jesus and pleaded to receive
his sight back, Jesus spoke and said, receive your sight, and power followed his words and the man,
Bartimaeus, received his sight (Mark 10:46-52). Another person’s hand was withered and Jesus said,
stretch forth your hand and he stretched his hand and power went with the word of Jesus and the
hand was restored (Mark 3:-6).
Here in John 8:11, Jesus said Go and Sin no more. Power to sin was destroyed. Today in your life,
every strength of sin is destroyed that, the life of Christ maybe examplified in your life.
John 8:12. Look at this in verse 12, the significance of following Christ ‘’Then spake Jesus again unto
them saying, I am the Light of the World: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness but shall
have the light of life’’.
‘’shall not walk in darkness’’ it means all the powers of darkness are gone. If you were in any secret
confraternity, you will walk out of it and the power of the confraternity will be destroyed out of your
life. You are now a man of light and a woman of light.
‘’you shall have the light of life’’ it means the light required for life and life abundance now lives in
you. You will no longer follow a strange voice. You will no longer go astray.
Look at John 10:4-5
John 10:4 ‘’And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he ‘the light of the word’ goeth before them,
and the sheep follow him:for they know his voice
V5 ‘’A stranger will they not follow’’. In your life, a strange voice will no longer mislead you.
Note
We must continue to pray for our converts for the grace to follow Christ and Christ alone. A stranger’s
voice they will no longer hear nor follow’’. They will never look back.
(B)
CALLING ANOTHER LOVINGLY TO FOLLOW CHRIST
John 1:45 ‘’Philip findeth Nathaneal and saith unto him, we have found him, of whom Moses in the
law , and the prophets did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
V46 And Nathaneal saith unto him, can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? PHILIP SAITH
UNTO HIM, COME AND SEE.
Consider how Nathaneal responded to Philip in such a highly disrespectful way yet Philip maintained
his cool.
Note
They might talk against your church, your pastor or even our saviour derogatorily as you go out,
remember the example of Philip, maintain your cool and reply like Philip, COME AND SEE.
Acts 8:29 ‘’Then the spirit saith unto Philip, Go near and join thyself to this chariot’’.
This is a total stranger to Philip. He’s never met this man before just like you may never have met this
new man/woman before and you are out to minister salvation and the spirit ministers to you to join
this man/woman to share the gospel, don’t be nervous, whatever the spirit of God asks you to do,
something God will come out of it.
‘’Go near’’ to evangelize people,we must go near. That may mean you speaking vernacular language if
that serves your purpose best. That doesn’t take the power of salvation away.
V30 ‘’Philip ran thither to him’’ that is excitement. ‘’Understandeth what thou readest?’’. this was not
meant to ridicule the man. Respectfully he asked, do you understand the passage and the meaning.
Note
Know the question to ask. Questions that will open the person up to you for discussion. The question
that will attract you to them and make them listen to you to explain.
V31 ‘’And he said , How can I except some man should guide me? And he DESIRED Philip that he
would come up and sit with him’’.
Note
You must be a desirable brother/sister. The way you talk, the way you comport yourself. Wear a smile
and put on the attitude of willingness to genuinely help and not that you are a ‘holier’ than thou..
brother or sister, let them feel important, knowing, I have left everything else I was doing in Samaria
to be with you here because you are very important. It is the way you relate with people that will
make them desire you. You will be desirable in Jesus name Amen.
Note
Do not transfer your experience with people you have met before in dealing with this person you are
meeting for the first time.
V32 ‘’The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was lead as a sheep to the slaughter; and
like a lamb dumb before his shares, so opened he not his mouth….’’.
V34 ‘’And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this, of
himself, or of some other man’’.
Note
Philip and the eunuch have never met themselves before, yet because the way Philip conducted
himself before this stranger (A very high officer, a foreigner traveling to his country through the
desert). The stranger had confidence in Philip that he has the answer to his confusion. You need to
earn the trust of your audience whenever we have the opportunity to stand before them. The way
you relate with them will make them know that you have the answer to their confusion and their
problems. And you have the answer.
V35 ‘’Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preach unto him Jesus’’.
Note
Then Philip opened his mouth. Please speak out and speak straight, eyeball to eyeball. Don’t make
your listener to strain the ears. E.g. ‘’I didn’t get that’’, ‘’Pardon me’’, ‘’Come again’’. These are
expressions that your listener is straining to hear. Don’t use too many church vocabularies that the
person may not understand. It’s not to show that you know the jaw-breaking word of the English
language. The purpose is for the person (listener), to understand and be converted to Christ.
‘’So Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture’’. You start from the known to the
unknown. The scripture that the eunuch read, Philip began from there.
I’ll like you to understand that for your presence not to be termed disruptive or rude interruption,
there is a need for you to wisely lead the discussion from the ‘known to the unknown’ by starting
from you listening and thereafter, present Christ. Whatever part of the Bible or discussion you may
start from, you must end up in presenting them with Christ.
(C)
CONTINUE TO LOVE AND TO FOLLOW CHRIST
John 15:8 “Herein is my father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. This year,
you will bear much fruit in your marriage, your business and in your careers. You will bear much fruits
in soul winning.
V9 ‘’As the father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love’’. we will continue in his
love. Nothing will separate us from the love of God. We will not stop the love of God from flowing
through us to others.
SHOWING FORTH HIS LIFE ONE STATEMENT AT A TIME
John 1:46 ‘’And Nathaneal said unto him, can there ant good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith
unto him, come and see’’.
Note
Maybe somebody in the cause of your preaching, says things about what happened and how bad and
demonic, how fetish his/her background maybe, whatever the report maybe, you have and answer
“come and see’’ one statement at a time.
A) COME AND SEE
John 1:46. Don’t argue with them, what you are telling them is come and see. Jesus who will change
their lives practically, positively and permanently. Argument does not win a soul but may win a point
like in a debate. Don’t debate any thing with anybody, simply invite them to meet Christ.
Psalms 66:6 ‘’He turned the sea into dry land. The went through the flood on foot: there did we
rejoice in him’’.
V5 ‘’COME AN SEE THE WORKS OF GOD: he is terrible in his doings towards the children of men’’
Note
That you can show them these scriptures and invite them to come and see the fulfillment of the
scriptures. Come and see the God that is able to dry up the flood of life. He is terrible in His doings
towards the children of men. They will see, you will see and we will all see the goodness of God in
every area of our lives.
1 kings 10:7 ‘’I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it and, behold, the half
was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceededth the fame which I heard’’.
They will see and confess like the queen of Sheba, half of what God is doing was not even told me.
‘’my eyes have seen’’ their eyes will see, your own eyes will see the glory and splendour of God upon
your life in Jesus Mighty Name.
Isaiah 52:10 “The lord hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nation; and all the ends of
the earth shall see the salvation of our God’’.
‘’All’’, ‘’Everyone’’, ‘’Anyone who cares’’, ‘’Everyone who will come see’’, you will see the power of
His arm for inviting others to Christ.
B) CARE AND SHARE
John 1:46
Remember you must find somebody in your world or circle of influence. It maybe be your classmate,
colleague or neighbour.
‘’And Nathanael said unto him, can there ant good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him,
COME AND SEE’’.
Note
Whatever their complaint maybe, ranging from sickness, demonic torment, lack or want, your answer
always is ‘’come and see’’. it must be pulling and persuasive enough to move them to see Jesus. You
do so because you care about them and you are concern for the situation.
Psalm 66:16 ‘’Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
Note
Show your testimony to him/her without lies, how God has save you, how God has saved, healed you
and encourage your listeners to come and see the power of His arm at work. You care enough to
share your testimony. You had a peculiar character that made people not want to come around you,
but Jesus changed your life. Care enough to share with him/her how your bitterness has been turned
into better, you will have enough to share because you will have more than enough testimonies in
your lives and families in Jesus name.
C) TO CLEAVE AND SERVE
The word cleave means to join together with somebody so intimately to serve or to assist the person.
Don’t just contact or reach them and drop them off.
John 1:47 ‘’Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Isrealite indeed, in whom
is no guile!
V48 ‘’Nathaneael saith unto him, WHENCE KNOWEST THOU ME? Jesus answered and saith unto him,
before that Philip called thee, when thou was under the fig tree, I saw thee’’
Note
Understand?what Philip said is beginning to come to pass. ‘’Come and see’’ Come and see somebody
who knows you and knows all your problems even before you tell him and his going to bring solution
to all your problems even before you tell him.
Note
‘’Jesus answered and saith unto him, BEFORE that Philip called thee, when thou west under the fig
tree, I saw thee’’.
This is the man who knows your past, he knows your present and he knows what he’s going to change
you into. He is going to make a star out of you. He’s going to make success out of you and make a
progressive person out of you. All you have to do is come and see.
V49 ‘’Nathaniel answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the son of God; thou art the king of
Israel
Note
Now he calls him Rabbi, he calls him the king of Israel. He has forgotten what he said, ‘can any good
thing come out of Nazareth?’
Note
They will forget all the rubbish they have spoken against you, the church and the gospel in the past.
V50 ‘’Jesus answered and saith unto him, because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree,
believest thou? THOU SHALT SEE greater things than these’’.
Note
‘’Believest thou?’’
Now he is a believer, Jesus himself said so. Everyone that you can bring to the lord Jesus, Jesus
himself will turn him into a believer. They will believe and have salvation, they will believe and have
healing, they will believe and have deliverance in Jesus mighty name.
Note
‘’Thou shalt see grater things than those’’. Even you who brings them to the lord, thou shall see
greater things than these. Greater power than these, greater progress than these, greater
breakthrough than these. Every miracle you have seen before, every progress you have seen before,
add everything together, multiply everything together and the Lord is telling you, you will see greater
things than these miracles in Jesus name.
V51 ‘’And he saith unto him, Verily,Verily I say unto you, thereafter YE SHALL SEE Heaven open, and
the angels of God ascending and descending upon the son of man’’.
Note
Look at that, everything Philip had told him “COME AND SEE’’, the lord Jesus is confirming all that
Philip had told you, ‘Ye shall see’. You have seen now, I say you’re a man with no guile, I take away all
guilt away from your life, I give salvation, You’re going to see greater things, you will see the
outpouring of the holy spirit. You are going to see the power from heaven flow through you into other
lives. You will see fruitfulness and thereafter, you shall see heaven open.
Heaven will be open unto you in Jesus name. The rains of heaven will come down upon your life,
blessings will come down upon your lives and you will see the angel of God ascending and descending
upon the son of man. There shall be no more tears in your eyes. It shall be replaced with the tears of
joy and testimonies. From now on, your season of SEEING has begun.
COME AND SEE!!!!!!!
