(b) Section B of the Figure-I represents a four-legged intersection with significant 20 CO2 P03
volume on the arterial. During the morning peak. S-W right tum movements and
during the evening peak E-S right turn movements become significant. All legal
movements are allowed. Provide a fully at-grade (channelization and/or
signalization) design solution. Also, draw conflict diagrams before and after the
solution has been implemented,

2. A sag vertical curve joins a -X% grade and a +Y % grade. If the vertical point of intersection of ( 10)
the grades is at station (40000+ LL) and has an elevation of 250 ft, determine the station and
elevation of the vertical point of curve and vertical point of tangent for a design speed of 70
mph. Compute the elevation on the curve at 100-ft intervals and draw it on paper. Also, what
should be the maximum allowable length of the grade? Assume rational values for Z and Y as
need. LL is the last two digits of your student ID.
3. Design the horizontal alighment and cross section of a Type 1 highway of the Roads and (10)
Highways Department of Bangladesh which is connected to a roundabout. The highway section
passes through a hilly region. Here are the outputs that you will produce: i) Horizontal layout
mentioning the lane width, bus layby location and spacing, bicycle lane and pedestrian walkway,
median, guard rail/concepts of forgiving highways, road marking and placement of road signs
(type and spacing); ii) Draw the cross-section for i).
4. A transportation engineer has designed a X-lane access-controlled highway having standard lane (10)
width which accommodates a horizontal curve of Y 0 . The engineer introduced a spiral curve to
negotiate the Z¾ superelevation. The highway's design speed is M mph. The angle of deflection
for the original tangents is 35°, and the P.I. is at station lO00+LL. Superelevation will be
achieved by rotating all lanes around the inside edge of the pavement. Mathematically and
diagrammatically demonstrate (showing the chainage on horizontal layout) how the
superelevation will be achieved. Also, calculate the maximum allowable speed on the horizontal
curve. Assume rational values for Z, Y, Z and M as need. LL is the last two digits of your
student ID.
