3. Open your existing project in Amberg Tunnel 2.22 and export a new Amberg Navigator project
file (.at2nav)
4. Load the new .at2nav into Amberg Navigator 1.22

1.2. Software download and version entitlement

The software can be downloaded from: https://ambergtechnologies.com/private-area/amberg-
tunnel/software-manuals/ and is available to:

• Perpetual licence users whose current M&S expiration date is 10th June, 2022 or later. (If you in-
stall this version and do not have a valid M&S, the software will not run)

• Time-limited (flex) licence users with a valid licence

2. New features and enhancements

2.1. Amberg Tunnel – Base
2.1.1. New “Stored Points” editor
The new Stored Points editor is a points spreadsheet that allows you to review and edit all project task
points that were measured using Amberg Navigator Tablet. The measurements are transferred to Am-
berg Tunnel Office via USB in the project file (.nav2at) or via Navigator Cloud Sync. The benefits of the
Stored Points editor include:

• Conveniently store all points (e.g., stake-out points, single point measurements, etc.) in your
Amberg Tunnel project
• Review all stored points by task type, operator, date, and other attributes
• View all deviation values associated with each point in the properties window
• Export stored points to CSV
• Use the “link” button to jump to the Navigator task definition (e.g., blast pattern task) of the se-
lected point

The Stored Points editor is organised in the project tree in the same manner as the measured profiles
and point cloud editors. The editor is located in the measurements node and organised by construction
stages.

2. Jump to related Navigator task
3. Export table to CSV
4. Properties of selected point

Amberg Navigator tasks offering a “store button” (such as the rock bolt task below) allows you to save
points to your project, which will appear in the Stored Points editor once the tablet data has been trans-
ferred to the office (via USB (.nav2at) or Navigator Cloud Sync).

The following Navigator tasks allow you to store points:

• Arch • Geotechnical 3D Points • Rock Bolt

• Area Marker • Infrastructure • Segment Joints
• Blast Pattern • Measure Absolute • Single Point
• Bolting • Pipe Umbrella • Tunnel Disc
• Contour • Point Check • Tunnel Saw
• Dome Faces • Point Stake Out
• Formwork • Pole

2.1.2. Derive horizontal alignment from DXF

You can now derive a horizontal alignment from a DXF file. This can be convenient in cases where you
do not have an alignment available in LandXML format. During import, you have the option to specify a
start stationing value. In addition, when specific conditions are met, Amberg Tunnel can convert a se-
quence of straight elements into a clothoid. In such cases, you can choose whether to convert the ele-
ments to clothoid.

Once the alignment has been imported, you can validate the quality of the elements by reviewing the
stationing error, azimuth error, and positioning error columns. Any errors will also be highlighted by error
and warning icons. If necessary, you can manually adjust the element values directly in the table.

2.1.3. Reorganised project tree with new parent node groups

New nodes for Geotechnics, Navigator, and Inspection are located towards the bottom of the project
tree, making it easier to find the related settings and options. These nodes are available depending on
your licenced features and modules.

2.1.4. Cubic yard (US) volumetric unit

With the cubic yard (US) volumetric unit now available in the project settings (File > Options > Units), you
can now produce all volume related reports, both tabular and graphical reports, in cubic yard units. This
includes reports from both Tunnelscan and Profile modules.

2.2. Amberg Profile
2.2.1. New Circularity (ovalisation) profile analysis
The new Circularity (ovalisation) profile analysis for segmental tunnel linings allows you to easily analyse
the circularity/ovality of cylindrical-shaped tunnels. Circularity checks are important measurements for
verifying and documenting the placement of segmental rings placed by a TBM. In addition, this analysis
can be used to check the circularity of vertical shafts. You can use measured profiles from any construc-
tion stage as the data source for the analysis.

Amberg Tunnel - Release notes Page 7 of 19

1. Circularity analysis type
2. Best-fit circle of the profile points
3. Measured point with a label showing:
a. the perpendicular displacement from the point to the best-fit circle
b. the point name
4. The axis/alignment position relative to the measured profile
5. The centre (least squares point (LSP)) of the best-fit circle with an XY shift from the axis position

Note

• The displacement values are based on a best-fit circle with a floating radius (calculated radius)
and are independent from the theoretical design
• This analysis is available with the Amberg Profile Plus module

This analysis includes a new report layout consisting of both a profile graphic and a table containing the
deviation values and other profile information.

2.2.2. Profile layer thickness analysis improvement
You now have better control over which measured profiles (reference construction stage vs. comparison
construction stage) are compared based on a maximum stationing distance between both profiles. This
is particularly useful when measured profiles are relatively close to one another or when the theoretical
profile abruptly changes (e.g., in shafts). Reference and comparison profiles will only be compared if both
profiles have heading stationing values withing the user-defined limit. In previous versions of Amberg
Tunnel, the default value of one meter was not configurable.

2.2.3. Profile names in tabular reports of measured vs. design
The profile names specified in the measured profiles editor (which can also be edited in the profile analy-
sis) are now included in the tabular measured vs. design profile reports. This includes the following report
types:

1. Under- / overprofile volume

2. Least square points

3. Measured volume

2.2.4. Profile level/elevation information in shaft reports
In the graphical report for shafts, you will now find the elevation/level information of the profile. The level
is calculated by averaging the height of all measured profile points.

2.2.5. Additional fields available for custom measured vs. design reports
It is possible to now include the area information of additional construction stages in the measured vs.
design graphical report. For the moment, this information is not included in the default graphical report.
Please contact Amberg Technologies if you would like your report to include this information. The exam-

ple below is a modified version of the “TMS Style” report with the area information of the additional stag-
es showing.

2.2.6. “TMS Style” report template added to the template selection list
In addition to the default measured vs. design report template, the TMS Style graphical template is now
included with the software installation.

TMS style Amberg Tunnel style

You can choose the template from the settings of the profile analyses.

2.3. Amberg Geotechnics
2.3.1. New “Radial displacement” analysis
The new Radial displacement analysis enables you to monitor the displacement of points on the tunnel
wall relative to the alignment/axis position. By visualising the displacement of an array of surface points
relative to a fixed centre point, you can gain further insights about the tunnel displacement.

Amberg Tunnel - Release notes Page 13 of 19

1. Surface measurement
2. Axis/alignment location
3. Calculated distance between surface point and axis

This analysis is a “distance type” analysis and is available in the Geotechnics Plus module. It uses a new
“radial center distance” point type, which can be configured in the Geotechnics node of the project tree.
The calculated distance between the surface point (3D coordinate) and the axis is based on a perpen-
dicular vector from the axis to the surface point. The results over time are presented in a similar way to
the existing “calculated distance” analysis.

2.3.2. Display displacement trigger limits as solid lines

In previous versions of Amberg Tunnel, the warning, alarm, and critical triggers were represented by a
solid coloured area, Now, you have to option to choose a solid line to represent the relevant trigger val-
ues. The line style can be preferable in cases where you have many location codes of various colours
and want to maximise their visibility against the background.

2.3.3. “Export latest measurements” added to the distance analysis

The distance analysis now includes an option to export only the latest value of each calculated distance.
This is useful if you want to analyse only the latest results in a third-party application, saving you time
filtering and sorting the data.

1. “Export latest results” button

2. The latest distance in the table (based on the measurement date) for every geotechnical cross
section is exported

2.4. Amberg Tunnelscan
2.4.1. Undo/redo commands added to the point cloud editor
You can now undo and redo filtering steps in the point cloud editor. This applies to all available filtering
options. Once you save the editor, the filtered points are then deleted.

2.4.2. Improved profile extraction from point cloud analyses

The algorithm for extracting profiles from point clouds has been improved, resulting in better defined
profiles. This is particularly useful when extracting profiles from low density point clouds.

2.5. Amberg Navigator
2.5.1. Support for the Leica BLK360 laser scanner
You can now use Amberg Navigator to control and capture scans with the Leica BLK360. Once the scan
has completed, you can georeference the point cloud directly from Amberg Navigator Tablet using the
checkerboard (black & white) positioning method. The georeferenced data is automatically transferred
from the scanner to the tablet and is transferred to the office in the project .nav2at file (USB method) or
via Navigator Cloud Sync.

The Leica BLK360 and checkerboard (black & white) positioning method can be used with the following
Navigator tasks:

• Blast round scan

• Line scan
• Layer thickness scan

You can configure the connection between Amberg Navigator and the Leica BLK360 in the general set-
tings of Amberg Navigator

Amberg Tunnel - Release notes Page 17 of 19

2.5.2. Task stored points (e.g., stake-out points) now transfer to Amberg Tunnel
All stored points now transfer to Amberg Tunnel’s new “Stored Points” editor via the project file (.nav2at)
or Navigator Cloud Sync. This creates a streamlined field-to-office workflow for all stake-out and general
point measurements. In previous versions, the stored points were stored in CSV files on the device, and
it was necessary to manually copy the measurements from the tablet. Now, all stake-out points and gen-
eral measurements for your entire project will be accessible in Amberg Tunnel and organized by con-
struction stage. For further information, see New “Stored Points” editor on page 3.

2.5.3. New “maximum distance to comparison profile” setting added to the profile layer thick-
ness task
The layer thickness profile task now allows you to specify a maximum stationing distance to the compari-
son profile. For example, if you measure a profile at stationing 100m and have the “maximum distance to
comparison profile” set to 0.5m, then Navigator will search for a comparison profile (from another con-
struction stage) between stationing 99.5m and 100.5m. If no comparison profile exists within this range,
no results will show.

3. Resolved issues
3.1. Amberg Tunnel
The following issues have been resolved in this version of Amberg Tunnel:

• Amberg Geotechnics - Fixed an issue where it was possible to delete an “in-use” location code in
a remote project, resulting in a corrupt project

• Amberg Geotechnics - A measurement that was previously set to “zero measurement” and then
changed to “erroneous” could sometimes disappear from the table

• Amberg Tunnelscan - Unsupported E57 formats (e.g., structured) will now show an error mes-
sage during import

• Amberg Tunnelscan - The application could sometimes crash when a reference profile contained
no measurements

• Amberg Tunnelscan - Measured vs. measured deviation values could sometimes be displayed
incorrectly

• Amberg Tunnelscan - When using multiple filter tools at the same time, some selected points did
not delete

• Amberg Profile - The application could sometimes crash when exporting horizontal cuts using
absolute height export parameters

• Amberg Profile - Pasting values into table of the measured profile editor could cause some
measurements to disappear

• Amberg Profile - Measured profiles sent from Amberg Navigator Tablet to Amberg Tunnel Office
via cloud transfer could fail to synchronise

• Amberg Profile - In the layer thickness analysis, the user-specified reference profile colour not
working

• Miscellaneous - Using Navigator cloud sync, the timestamp of measurements from Navigator
could be wrong due to time zone differences

• Navigator task definition - Settings that were changed could save without saving the dialog

3.2. Amberg Navigator

The following issues have been resolved in this version of Amberg Navigator:

• Incorrect synchronisation logic between Amberg Navigator and Amberg Tunnel where profiles
deleted from the office failed to delete the same profile from the tablet
