Answer:
Good morning, students. I am Joanne Tan, the counsellor in this education
fair. Today I would like to give a talk on “Careers in Sports”.
Nowadays, young people think that sports-related careers are glamourous.
The athletes and coaches are gaining publicity under the spotlights. You might be
wrong in thinking so. So, let me introduce you the careers available in sports. The
careers in sports including athletes, sports coach, sports teacher, sports writer and
athletic director.
As basic preparation to join the field, you have to obtain some trainings to
ensure the fitness. Not only athletes but the sports coaches and teachers are
required to have good fitness. Then, you have to sign up for an appropriate college
programme. Many colleges offer sports-related courses such as sports science,
sports management, sports medicine and physical education.
You are also encouraged to volunteer or take part time role in sports
organisation. This can increase your exposure to the related career and make sure
that it is something you genuinely want to pursue. You can also gain experience
by helping the sports organisation. Gaining some first-hand experience is definitely
helpful in your career choice.
Sports careers have its own pros and cons. The advantages of having a
career in sports is doing something that you can enjoy. You might get a chance to
work with some famous athletes. You may also gain some reputation by coaching
a team to success. You may also help in training some athletes and establish the
country's name in international level in certain sports. However all of these require
hard work and perseverance.
The major drawback of a sports-related career is the salary. The salary is often
lower than desired. Other than that, the job also required plenty of hard work and
high energy level. Sometimes, you need to work in long and uncertain working
hours.
If you are interested in checking out a sports career, you can discuss with
your parents before making any decision. Meanwhile, you can undergo some
〈
physical training as a preparation. I hope you can get some useful information
from my talk today. Thank you.

Answer:
Good morning Mr Zakri, the school principal, teachers and my fellow
friends. I am Joanne Tan, the president of English Language Society. First of
all, I would like to thank the principal for giving me this opportunity to talk
about the benefits of joining our English Language Society.
The main objective of setting up English Language Society is to
encourage students to speak and use more English language in daily life. So
by joining English Language Society and participating in our activities, you
are able to practice to speak and use more English language in a proper
way in your daily life. This can help you to improve your speaking skills and
grammar in English language.
Besides, English Language Society organises various activities every
year. We have activities such as sketches, dramas, public speaking sessions
as well as debates. All these activities are fun and most importantly, some of
these activities allow you to voice out your opinion clearly. Activities such as
public speaking sessions and debates also train your English language
speaking skills and brush up your confidence to speak to the crowd. All these
activities also improve your proficiency in English language and this can be
an important asset to you.
Also, sometimes we go beyond the school levels and participate in
various district and state level competitions. We have been sending
representatives in past few years to join the public speaking and debate
competitions in district and state level. I am proud to say that we have a very
good and dedicated teacher advisor and coach for both competitions who
is Miss Lee Sing Yee. Under her guidance, we emerged as state champion for
public speaking competition last year. Therefore, I would encourage you to
join our English Language Society because each year we are training juniors
for competition and it might be your chance this year to represent the school.
I hope by now you are convinced that English Language Society is fun,
exciting yet educational for society to join. We hold our weekly meeting
every Saturday from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm. No member fee is required. Join
us and have fun! Thank you very much.

Answer:
How to Handle Stress amongst Students
By Joanne Tan
Stress is an unavoidable and fundamental topic to discuss and be aware of especially
among students studying for SPM examination. As students, we should work hard to pass
the examination with flying colours in order to pursue greater chance to obtain the tertiary
level of education. However, I have seen many of my friends are under pressure. In order
to avoid the side effects of over stress, there are various ways to cope with stress.
Different people need different ways to cope with stress. However, the most important
thing is the students must have proper self-management skills. For example, students can
plan a timetable to distribute the precious time into learning and relax session. You can
spend a quality of time for hobbies. A stone kills two birds if your hobby is to do exercise.
For your information, regular exercise can improve health status as well as enhance
learning and understanding abilities. Furthermore, you should make sure you get enough
sleep which is at least 8 hours a day. A balanced diet is important to live healthily. We
need nutritious food to increase our immune system and stay away from diseases.
With healthy mind and body, we can achieve more efficient learning process if we
can recognise and evaluate own study skills. For instance, we can refer to the way of study
and prepare for the examination from our seniors. Besides, a study group is one of the
methods to achieve a better outcome as well as reduce stress. You can discuss the
difficult questions and chapter with your friends. Moreover, you can make a checklist for
the important topics to study and try to complete the list one week before the
examination. This can help to prevent unnecessary pressure if near to examination.
When you tried all the methods above but unfortunately, stress still overstrikes your
mentality. You must try to release your stress by multiple methods. For an example, you
can talk to your family and friends. With the support from the loved ones, you can stand
stronger. You can also seek advice from school counsellors who are experienced,
understanding, and trustworthy. They can help you to solve your problems. Besides, you
should listen to music and play games to reduce stress. This can help you to keep your
mind away from school-related stress. In addition, you can always seek a lending hand
from school teachers to improve your certain subjects. Last but not least, you can go to
tuition classes to have extra teaching session.
In conclusion, where there is a will, there is a way. I hope that the tips can help you to
reduce stress. We must overcome stress because it is one of the challenges and obstacles
for us to become a better person in the future.
