(ii) (a) The fulcrum of a given crowbar divides its length in the ratio 1 : 5, when
situated at a distance from the load. Calculate the M.A. of the crowbar. [1]
(b) How are M.A. and V.R. related to each other, for a practical machine? [1]

(iii) A car of mass 120 kg is moving at a speed of 5 ms–1. It accelerates and
attains a speed of 20 ms–1. Calculate the work done by the engine assuming
there is no loss of energy. [2]

(v) A fuse is rated 8 A. Can it be used with an electrical appliance rated 5kW, 200V ?

(b) State the energy change that occur during photosynthesis in green leaves. [1]

(vii) Show in a circuit diagram how will you connect three resistances of values 2,
3 and 5 between points A and B so that equivalent resistance A and B so that
equivalent resistance between the points be 2.5 . [2]

(i) Refractive index of glass is 1.5. Light wave of wavelength 750nm enters into
glass from air. Find its wavelength in glass. [2]

(ii) A copper wire of resistance 64  is doubled onto itself. Find the resistance of
the modified wire. [2]

(iii) In a three pin plug, why is the earth pin made -

(a) longer (b) thicker [2]

(iv) List two ways to increase the speed of rotation in a DC motor. [2]

(v) How does the (i) position of image (ii) brightness of image, change when the
upper half of a lens is painted black. [2]

Question 4
(i) (a) Draw a well labelled diagram of a three pulley block and tackle system. [3]

(b) If the load moves up a distance x, by what distance will the free end of the
string be moved?

(ii) A body of mass 500 g is kept at a height of 4 m. It is allowed to fall freely and
reach the ground.

(a) What is the total mechanical energy possessed by the body at a height of 1 m
above the ground. [3]

(b) What is the kinetic energy possessed by the body just before hitting the
ground (Take g = 10ms–2)

(iii) (a) Differentiate between centripetal and centrifugal force in terms of their
direction. Compare their magnitudes as well.

(b) Arrange the following radiations in the increasing order of their wavelength -
microwaves, X- rays, infrared, ultraviolet.

(c) What happens when there is an accidental contact between the live and
neutral wires? [4]

(i) By means of a ray diagram, show the use of total reflecting prism as an erecting
prism. Name a device in which this action is used. [3]

(ii) A virtual and diminished image is formed when an object is placed in front of a lens
at its focus. [3]
(a) Name the lens
(b) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image.
(iii) An object is placed at distance of 24 cm in front of a convex lens of focal
length 8 cm. Calculate - [4]
(a) distance of image from the lens.
(b) linear magnification of the image.

(i) A man standing in front of a wall produces a sound and hears an echo after
3 second. He then walks x m away from the wall and produces the sound
again. Now he hears echo after 5.25 second. Find x (speed of sound in air is
340 ms-1). [3]

depends. Also, write how does the named factor affects the frequency. [3]

(i) Name two devices used to limit the current in a circuit. Why should the named

electricity is Rs 8 per unit.

(c) What is the emf of a dry cell (carbon - zinc cell)?
