Introduction

2
Date;: Investigation conducted from 06 July 2024- 28 September 2024

Place: Zealous tutorial school garden

Objective of the investigation

- The investigation is mostly aimed at comparing the growth and yield of tomatoes in
fertilized soil and how they grow in an unfertilized soil

Hypothesis
- Plants such as tomatoes grow fast and produce quality products in fertilized soil,
compared to the way they do in an unfertilized soil

Literature review
- Plants develop green leaves, with a fast growth and quality yield production, When he
soil is fertilized since they tend to get additional nutrient which is needed for quality
growth and production
- Plant growth is often reduced or slowed in unfertilized soil, as the plant doesn’t get all the
needed nutrient in the right proportion. This often leads to poor/stunted growth and yield

Resources to be used
- Measuring tape
- Soil preparing tools {spade, rake, watering cane, garden fork etc.}
- Recording book and pen
- Animal fertilizer
- Buckets to carry fertilizer in
- Tomato seeds/seedling

Methodology
Step 1

3
- Seedbed measuring in meters {m} and preparation
- Moistening and loosening the soil for easy root penetration

Step 2
- Determine the soil condition by fertilizing the plot while leaving the other plot
unfertilized
- Ensure plots get the same amount of water on a regular basis
- Plants should have the same space in between in order for you to be easy to keep record
of them

Step 3
- Sow seeds and record germination date
- Apply same conditions regularly in plots except for fertilizer
- Record differences seen in the emerged seedlings after a week { colour, size, number}
- Measure the height of all leaves and obtain an average height in mm after 2 weeks
- Compare the growth rate of the plants in both plots every after 2 weeks

Data presentation

Plot A Plot B
1 10 15
2 15 20
3 19 25
4 24 29

Bar graph

Findings and conclusions

- By checking at the graph and the table the hypothesis was proven to be right. It clearly
shows that seedlings in plot B [ fertilized soil } were growing faster compared to the
seedlings planted in plot A { unfertilized soil}

Limitations

5
- The limitation we had was that people were a lot and a large number of seedbeds were
made but the watering cans or basins were very few even for sharing. People had few
equipment to work with while preparing the seedbed and the fertilizers was not enough
for the crops

Recommendation or Suggestions made for improvements

- I humbly request that the school should try by all means to buy enough equipments for
learners to work with. They should also try their best to make sure learners get enough
fertilizers required for the experiment and make sure learners get all the different type of
seed/seedlings cooperating with their topics

Acknowledgements
- Thanks giving goes to our agricultural teacher who help me prepare my seedbed and
carry out the investigation, and it also goes to all my group mates who helped me out
through out the process and to the school management for allowing us to carry out our
investigation in the school yard
