Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes, the most common type of diabetes, is a disease that occurs
when your blood sugar is too high. Blood glucose (Blood sugar) is the main
source of energy and it comes from the foods that we eat. Inulin, a hormone
made by the Pancreas, helps blood sugar get into the cells to be used by cells. In
Type 2 diabetes, the body doesn’t make enough insulin so too much glucose
stays in the blood and the blood sugar level increases. In 2017 InPen (Smart
Insulin Pen) was launched. It was invented by a company called Medtronic. The
InPen is a reusable smart insulin pen that uses Bluetooth technology to send dose
information to a mobile app. InPen helps people calculate mental math for
diabetes management.

Other scientific solutions exist for type 2 diabetes. For instance, Metformin, a
medication approved in the 1950s, is still widely used. It reduces glucose
production. It is the main first-line medication for the treatment of type 2
diabetes especially for overweight people. Another solution is pancreatic
transplantation. It began in the 1960s for type 1 diabetes but in select cases,
they are also considered for type 2 diabetes. It is an organ transplant that
involves transferring a healthy pancreas into a person who has type 2 diabetes.
