● What are its three most common usages today
● What does that mean for those in the healthcare industry
today
What is AI?
● AI stands for artificial intelligence.
● Definition: This pertains to the qualification of
machines to doing tasks that would be done by
humans like making decisions, solving problems,
reasoning, and learning
Branches of AI
● Natural Language Processing (NLP): Focuses
on the interaction between human and
computers ( generates human language data)
● Machine Learning (ML): Focuses on building
algorithms and statistical models to
computers improving their performances on
task
● Computer Vision (CV): Focuses on enabling
machines to understand visual information
from the world around them
Three Common Usages Of Artificial Intelligence
(NLP, ML, CV)
● Virtual assistant/ virtual agents, chatbots and language translation
= NLP
- Ex: Siri and Alexa (Virtual Assistant); Google translation (language
translation)
● Content Recommendations, personalized advertisement, and
cybersecurity/ fraud detection = ML
- Ex: Netflix or spotify; unexpected credit card transactions, spams
● Object recognition and Augmented Reality (AR) = CV
- Object recognition - Identifies objects from images from a camera
and videos
- Augmented reality - provides what we see in reality through
images.
How does Artificial Intelligence Impact the

● Transforming imaging like:

CT X-ray
● Includes: Automated diagnosis, early disease
detection,...

● AI has the ability to tailor medicinal treatments to individual
patients.
- This includes: Predictive analytics, precise medicine and the
discovery and development of drugs
● AI improves and manages healthcare operations
- This includes: optimization on resources and electronic health
records
