An adventure game in the Kanto Pokemon world for 2-5 Players

This is game #3 of 3 games you can play with Pokemon of D
Ver 1.0 (25 Jan 2012)
www.jackdgames.com

1.INTRODUCTION
The Players are Pokemon Trainers. You will travel across the land, searching far and
wide. You will catch Pokemon and Legendary Pokemon, collect Badges, defeat Team
Rocket, then at last will face to face with the Pokemon Master in Indigo Plateau.

2.THE COMPONENTS
- 150 Pokemon cards
- 18 Team Rocket cards.
- 1 Map board
- 12 Badge Tokens (4 are empty)
- 5 Pokemon Master cards
- 5 Player Pawns, one for each Player

THE COMPONENTS: Pokemon cards

This Pokemon Evolution.

Caterpie’s picture Caterpie can evolve to
Metapod, then to Butterfree.

You will start with one Pokemon, and will catch many more Pokemon in your journey.
All Pokemon you have will be placed face up in front of you. A Pokemon can help you in
many ways, including your Movement, in a Pokemon Battle, and you can even Trade it!
Everytime you use a Pokemon, that Pokemon will become Exhausted (turn the card 90
degrees), can not be used again. To heal all of your Pokemon (so your Pokemon has a
Ready status again) you have to go to a PokeCenter in a Red/Purple circle
(City/Town/Island/Indigo Plateau) in the Map.

You can have maximum of 9 (nine) Pokemon in your Team. If you catch more, you must
put the excess Pokemon at the bottom of the Pokemon Deck (send to Professor Oak!).
THE COMPONENTS: Map board
You can move and place your Player Pawn on the circles in the Map: Red circle
(Town/City/Island), Yellow circle (to catch Legendary Pokemon!), Purple circle (Indigo
Plateau) or Green circle (road/bridge/wilderness). A circle can be occupied by one or
more Player Pawn.
When you move your Player Pawn, you may only move from one circle to an adjacent
circle. A circle is called adjacent to another circle if both circles are: connected with a
road/bridge (example: Lavender Town and Green circle #14), connected with a black dot
(example: Green circle #6 and Cerulean City), or directly touching each other (example:
Fuchsia City and the Yellow circle near Fuchsia City). You can not move to a circle that
is not adjacent (example: you can not move from Green circle #19 to the Yellow circle
near Fuchsia City. You must move to Fuchsia City first, then move to that Yellow circle)
.

3.SETUP
a) Make the Legendary Pokemon Deck consists of 4 Pokemon with Power=8 & 9
(Zapdos, Articuno, Moltres, Mewtwo). Shuffle & put face down on the Legendary
Pokemon place.
b) Shuffle 18 Team Rocket cards and put face down above the Legendary Pokemon
Deck. (If you want to catch a Legendary Pokemon, you must defeat Team Rocket first!)
c) Shuffle 5 Pokemon Master cards, put face down on Pokemon Master place. Flip the
top card so everyone can see who is the Pokemon Master this time. Note: only one
Pokemon Master will be used in each game.
d) Shuffle 8 Badge Tokens and 2 empty Tokens. Put at random on all 10 Red circles in
the board. Then flip all Badge Tokens face up (Each game the place for Badges will be
different!). Take the 4 empty Token, put on the empty place on the lower right side of
the board to be used later.
e) Search the Pokemon cards, set aside the first 7 Pokemon cards you find with Power=2.
Put in Card Place #3,6,9,12,15,18,21. (Wild Pokemon are roaming in these area!)
f) Search the Pokemon cards, set aside the first X Pokemon cards you find with Power=3,
where X=the number of Players.
g) From the youngest to the oldest Player: each Player takes 1 Pokemon card set aside in
f) and put in front of themselves (your very first Pokemon!) then place his Player Pawn
in a Red circle of his choice (your hometown!). Note: a circle can be occupied by one or
more Player pawns.
h) Shuffle the rest of the Pokemon cards, becomes the Pokemon Deck. Place face down
near the board. Determine at random who will take the first Turn.

Strategy: it’s better if you start in a Red circle that is near a Green circle that has a wild
Pokemon, so in your first Turn you can easily catch a Pokemon. Because of this,
Cinnabar Island and Pallet Town are not recommended for your starting Red circle (but
you can start from there to give your children an advantage ;) ).

4.GAMEPLAY
Each Turn a Player follow these steps in order:
A) Movement
B) Action
C) Trading
After that Player Turn ends, the next (clockwise) Player takes his Turn. Do this until the
Pokemon Master is defeated.

A) Movement: you may STAY or MOVE.

STAY: your Player Pawn stay on the current circle.
MOVE: move your Player Pawn to an adjacent circle. Then you may do this as many
times as you want as long as you have enough Pokemon to help : exhaust 1 of your
Pokemon to move to an adjacent circle. Example: with 3 Ready Pokemon you can move
up to 4 circle (1 “free” move and 3 move aided by your Pokemon).
B) Action
If you are on a Green circle:
i) draw 1 card from the Pokemon Deck, put at the corresponding Card place (example: if
you are in Green circle #8 then put the card in Card place #8).
ii) if you choose not to catch a Pokemon, continue to iii). If you want to catch a
Pokemon: choose one Pokemon in this circle (see the Pokemon card on the
corresponding Card place), then begin a BATTLE against that Pokemon (see BATTLE,
below). If you lose continue to iii). If you win, you have successfully caught that
Pokemon: put that new Pokemon in front of you in Exhausted position.
iii) if there are 2 Pokemon cards on the same Card place, choose one to put at the bottom
of the Pokemon Deck.

If you are on a Yellow circle:

You may pass (do nothing) or try to catch a Legendary Pokemon. To do that you must
defeat Team Rocket and defeat the Legendary Pokemon found here:
i) reveal the top Team Rocket card. You must BATTLE that Team Rocket (see
BATTLE,below). If you lose then put that Team Rocket card at the bottom of the Team
Rocket Deck.
ii) If you win then reveal the top card of the Legendary Deck , you must BATTLE that
Legendary Pokemon. If you lose put that Legendary Pokemon card at the bottom of the
Legendary Pokemon Deck. If you win you have successfully caught that Legendary
Pokemon (put in front of you in Exhausted position), then put the back of an empty
Badge Token on this Yellow circle to mark that no one can catch a Legendary Pokemon
again in this circle (a Player may move to this Yellow circle, but may not catch a
Legendary Pokemon here).

If you are on a Red circle:

Choose one: go to PokeCenter (heal all of your Pokemon, all your Pokemon now Ready)
OR go to Gym to defeat the Gym Leader to get the Badge (you may do this only if there
is a Badge Token on this Red circle).
To get the Badge on this Red circle you must win 2 consecutive BATTLE:
i) reveal the top of the Pokemon Deck, this is the Guardian Pokemon. You must
BATTLE that Pokemon. If you lose then put the Guardian Pokemon at the bottom of
the Pokemon Deck.
ii) If you win then you must BATTLE the Gym Leader (the Gym Leader uses Pokemon
that has Pokemon Type and Power on the left side of the Badge Token). If you lose
then put the Guardian Pokemon at the bottom of the Pokemon Deck. If you win then
take that Badge Token and the exhausted Guardian Pokemon, put in front of you.

If you are on a Purple circle:
Choose one: go to PokeCenter (heal all of your Pokemon, all your Pokemon now Ready)
OR go to challenge the Pokemon Master (you may do this only if all of the 8 Gym
Leaders have been defeated).
To defeat the Pokemon Master you must win 2 consecutive BATTLE:
i) reveal the top of the Pokemon Deck, this is the Guardian Pokemon. You must
BATTLE that Pokemon. If you lose then put the Guardian Pokemon at the bottom of
the Pokemon Deck.
ii) If you win then you must BATTLE the Pokemon Master (the Pokemon Master uses
Pokemon that has Pokemon Type and Power on the right side of the Pokemon Master
card). If you lose then put the Guardian Pokemon at the bottom of the Pokemon Deck.
If you win then take the Pokemon Master card and the exhausted Guardian Pokemon ,
put in front of you, then the game ends !

BATTLE
You can defeat your opponent by exploiting their weakness or by Power:
- by exploiting your opponent weakness (only if your opponent have weakness): exhaust
1 Pokemon that match the type of your opponent’s weakness. You may do this only if
your opponent has weakness. Example: to defeat Legendary Pokemon Mewtwo
(Psychic Pokemon with Power=9, weakness: Psychic), you may use(exhaust) Abra
(Psychic Pokemon with Power=3, weakness: Psychic).
- by Power: exhaust any number of Pokemon with total Power your opponent’s
Pokemon Power. You may not use any Pokemon that has weakness from your
opponent’s Pokemon type. Example: to defeat Gym Leader Erica (Power=7, Grass),
you may use Bulbasaur+Abra+Caterpie (total Power=3+3+2=8). But you may not use
Bulbasaur+Abra +Poliwag (Power=3+3+2=8) because Poliwag weakness is Grass
(Bulbasaur+Abra is not enough to defeat her).

Note: Team Rocket, all of the Gym Leader, and the Pokemon Master don’t have a
weakness, so you can defeat them only by Power. Team Rocket doesn’t have a Type, so
you can use any Pokemon against Team Rocket.

If you can defeat your opponent, you win this Battle. If you can not defeat your opponent,
you lose this Battle then exhaust all of your Pokemon.
C) Trading
If there are any other Trainer in the same circle with you, you must trade with one of
them: Choose one Trainer in the same circle with you. That Trainer chooses and set aside
one of his Pokemon to give to you. Then that chosen Trainer chooses one of your pile:
your Exhaust Pokemon or your Ready Pokemon, then take one Pokemon at random from
that Pile. That chosen Trainer then gives you the Pokemon set aside before.
All Pokemon traded this way are Exhausted.

Example: You end your Movement in Green circle #5, then successfully catch a
Pokemon. Now you have Pokemon Abra,Bulbasaur,Charizard (Ready) and Diglett, Eevee
(Exhausted). In Green circle #5 there are 2 other Pokemon: Alex and Bob. You
choose to Trade with Bob. Bob set aside a Weedle for you, then Bob chooses your Ready
pile. You shuffle Abra,Bulbasaur and Charizard and Bob takes 1 Pokemon at random, he
gets (ouch for you!) Charizard ! Then you get Weedle. Both Charizard and Weedle are
Exhausted. Now your Pokemon are: Abra,Bulbasaur (Ready) and Diglett,Eevee,Weedle
(Exhausted).
Note: yes, the active Player has a disadvantage in this Trading. So choose carefully where
you will end your movement!

5.GAME ENDS
The game ends when the Pokemon Master is defeated. Then each Player counts his score:
- Badge Token: 1 point each
- Legendary Pokemon: 1 point each
- Pokemon Master card: 3 points
- 2 Pokemon in the same evolution chain: 1 point
- 3 Pokemon in the same evolution chain: 2 points

Example: if you have Caterpie and Butterfree you will get 1 point. If you have Caterpie
and Metapod and Butterfree you will get 2 points.

The Player with the most points wins and becomes the new Pokemon Master !!
In case of a tie, the youngest Trainer wins the game and becomes the new Pokemon
Master !!
Game ends example: Left Player gets 6 points (4 Badges + 2 Legendary Pokemon),
Middle Player gets 5 points (1 Badge + 1 Pokemon Master + 1 Legendary Pokemon),
Right Player gets 4 points (3 Badges + 1 Legendary Pokemon). Left Player wins !
