Assignment 2
Due Date: 28th October
1) A company produces two products that are processed on two assembly lines. Assembly line 1 has 100 available
hours, and assembly line 2 has 42 available hours. Each product requires 10 hours of processing time on line 1,
while on line 2 product 1 requires 7 hours and product 2 requires 3 hours. The profit for product 1 is $6 per unit,
and the profit for product 2 is $4 per unit.

a) Solve this model by using Computer Software

Decision Variables: Objective Function:

Product 1 = x1 Zmax = 6x1 + 4x2

Product 2 = x2

x1 , x2 ≥ 0

Constraints:

Assembly Line 1 Constraint: 10x1 + 10x2 ≤ 100

Assembly Line 2 Constraint: 7x1 + 3x2 ≤ 42

2)

Solution:
3) Solve the given Linear Programming model with computer software’s: a) QM windows and b) MS Excel (Solver)

Maximize Z = (Last 2 digits of Roll number) x1 + 50x2

subject to: x1 + 2x2  40

4x1 + 3x2  120

x1, x2  0

Note: If it seems difficulty in making MS Excel than use MS Excel (Solver) file uploaded at LMS

Hint: If your roll number is 688576 than Maximize Z = 76x1 + 50x2

a) QM Windows

My roll number is 12163

b) MS Excel (Solver)

4) The Pyrotec Company produces three electrical products—clocks, radios, and toasters. These products have the
following resource requirements:

The manufacturer has a daily production budget of $ 2000 and a maximum of 660 hours of labor. Maximum daily
customer demand is for 200 clocks, 300 radios, and 150 toasters. Clocks sell for $15, radios for $20, and toasters for $12.
The company wants to know the optimal product mix that will maximize profit.

a. Formulate a linear programming model for this problem.

b. Solve the model by using the computer software and attach a screen shot of Ranging and with assignment.

Decision Variables: Objective Function:

Clock = x1 Zmax = 15x1 + 20x2 + 12x3

Radio = x2

Toaster = x3

x1 , x2 , x3 ≥ 0

Constraints:

Budget Constraint: 7x1 + 10x2 + 5x3 ≤ 2000

Labour Constraint: 2x1 + 3x2 + 2x3 ≤ 660

Demand Constraints: x1 ≤ 200, x2 ≤ 300 and x3 ≤ 150

Solution:
