MIND MAPPING
Mind map is a diagram used to visually organize an idea. It is often used to discuss a single concept where
representations of symbols, images or words are added. It helps in linking together concepts and information in
such a way that the interconnection and interrelation of these are clearly laid out and easily accessible to help in
problem solving and for reference and review.
Central Theme is placed in the middle of the sheet as the general concept; Major Issues concerning
the central theme are presented thru the use of lines branching out from general concept.
Mind maps are useful during brainstorming sessions, making decisions, organizing information, simplifying

CONCEPT OF MENTAL HEALTH & WELL-BEING
The World Health Organization's (WHO) World health report released 2001 stated that "mental health is defined
differently by different experts, from different cultures.
CONCEPT OF MENTAL HEALTH INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
1. Subject well-being - This may be defined as one's personal (subjective) thoughts and feelings about one's
overall state beings. Mental health denotes positive and healthy interpretation of a person's self-concept. A
negative self-concept will have a negative effect on one's mental health and well-being.
Example: If a person perceives herself as unattractive, she will start feeling inadequate and compare herself
to others. She will feel jealous and anxious...
2. Perceived self-efficacy - is one's perception of one's value and worth, effectiveness, and ability in performing
a task or activity. Mental health and well-being is also anchored on one's self-worth and value or self-esteem.
A person with healthy self-concept will move toward self-fulfilling and self - actualization, have healthy
relationships and live happier and fulfilling lives. A person with low self -esteem may exhibit types of behavior
that are self-destructive or self-sabotaging.
3. Autonomy - Deals with one's capacity of separate one's identity from other significant persons like parents,
lovers, and special friends. Autonomy is the capacity for self-direction and having a clearly defined role
identity. Lack of autonomy can lead to co-dependence among those who cannot define themselves as
separate entities from people they depend on either emotionally, emotionally, socially, spiritually, or even
financially.
4. Competence - is related to self-esteem and self-identity. It is the perception of one's capacity to perform
effectively a function or activity using specific skills and knowledge, and achieving the desired results at a
given time. The ability to accept changes and being resilient is also part of being competent.
5. Intergenerational dependence - Refers to relationships between individuals who belong to different
generations providing for each other's many needs, such as financial assistance, nursing care, and emotional
support. However, with healthy relationships between family member family members, older parents will often
be visited by their children (and grandchildren) during weekends or during special occasions.
6. Self-actualization of one's intellectual and emotional potential, among others - In mashlow's hierarchy of
needs places self-actualization at the peak. This means that one a person fulfills his or her physiological
needs, security, and so on. The fulfillment of these needs does not have to be sequence or progression. One's
person's need for love may be stronger than the need of security. As a person reaches self-actualization, the
next thing to do is to practice what they know and share these with other people around them.
