SAM MOORBOURNE
Murder at Moorbourne Manor
Following his reading, Lord Moorbourne invited you and the rest of the
guests to stay on at the mansion to enjoy the generous food and drink
that he had provided. He then retired to his study.
However, just as the party was coming to an end, the evening took
a gruesome turn- Lord Moorbourne’s temporary maid, Violet Smith,
discovered his murdered body slumped across his desk! She let out a
scream that must’ve reached the four corners of Dartmoor.
What Now?
You and the other guests are required to assemble in the grand reception
room to hear Detective Hughes speak. Hurry along there, but don’t say
too much! Just listen. Be under no illusion – YOU are a suspect too!

SAM MOORBOURNE
ROUND 1
INTRODUCTIONS
Use this page to help introduce your character to Detective Leslie Hughes
when asked. Be careful not to overshare!
Your Background
You’re Sam Moorbourne, Lord Victor Moorbourne’s second born child.
Your big brother is your hero. Even though Neville’s dark side is clear for
all to see, you see what others don’t- the scared little boy who can’t get
out of his father’s shadow. It pains you to see Neville blame your father for
his shortcomings, deep down he knows he will never be as successful in
business as him because of his own insecurities. Your father knows this only
too well and is hard on Neville in an attempt to toughen him up.
As for you, your father afforded you everything that medical science could
offer but otherwise he takes little to do with you. You’ve heard him say
about you in the past: “It wasn’t my idea, its mother wanted to keep it! Then
she bloody died on me!”
Your substitute mother, Daisy Green was gentle and loving towards you.
Even though you’re now 43 years old, her recent passing has hurt you the
most and you catch yourself weeping multiple times throughout each day.
Feeling your body grow weaker and knowing that you’re unlikely to live
very much longer yourself, you need her now more than ever.
You’re told that your kind nature was inherited from your mother, but you
feel that it might be more of a side-effect of your disability and a learned
humility that is necessary to elicit the help of others. Some would say that
very misunderstanding of yourself is proof of an innate humility.
7
You feel like your sister, Ada, lives in a dreamworld. She acts like you’re not
a wheelchair user and often asks you to do things that you’re not capable
of. Living in her own head has caused Ada to remain unmarried at 41
years old. In your opinion, Ada has now reached the age of a spinster and
will one day be a very lonely woman. Your heart breaks for her.
Your inheritance is of no real consequence to you; you know you have little
life left. Many years ago, you decided that if you outlived your father, you’d
give up any inheritance you received to your brother and sister in exchange
for end-of-life care.
You take great pleasure in watching other people dance, you often get lost
in the music with them and assume that the euphoria you feel is the same
that dancers feel. In that way, you feel included.
Your Introduction
When asked, use this statement to introduce your character.
“Hello, I’m Sam Moorbourne, Lord Victor Moorbourne’s second born child.
I just can’t believe what has happened here tonight- my father had many
faults but deep down he was a good man, and more importantly, for me
anyway, a generous father. Many experts have said that without my father’s
influence and wealth I wouldn’t be alive today – he made sure that I wanted
for nothing and, by default, has probably financed medical advancements
that will continue to benefit complete strangers long into the future.”
STOP HERE!
DETECTIVE HUGHES WILL NOW ASK YOU WHO YOU ARE.

SAM MOORBOURNE
ROUND 2
MINGLING
Detective Hughes has provided some invaluable initial insights into the
gruesome crime that has unfolded here tonight at Moorbourne Manor.
Read more about yourself below before getting to know the other guests a
little better. The aim of this round is to uncover information about the other
guests that may link them back to the insights that Detective Hughes has
given you.
Your Secrets
Keep these to yourself!
• Deep down you do not feel like the legitimate child of Lord Victor
Moorbourne, but you fight this feeling by telling yourself it’s just the
wheelchair that makes you feel different.
• You feel sorry for your cousin, Sidney. His bravado and arrogance
are masks that he wears to impress your father, in your opinion.
• You still live at Moorbourne Manor and would love to see it sold so
that you’re forced to see more of the world before you die. Even if that
world is just another house.
9
Possible Conversation Starters
Use these in any order. The aim here is to further understand the other
guests.
If you’re asked a question, use what you know from your character
biography to answer- carefully!
• Say to the others: “Some of you still crouch down when you’re talking
to me. Please don’t do that. And if you make that blunder, please
don’t apologise- most people don’t realise that it’s rude and I fully
understand that it takes a bit of getting used to.”
• Let it be known that you may need to retire to your room at Moorbourne
Manor during the course of the evening. Say: “Late nights always
exhaust me, but the death of my father has all but stolen my last
breath. I may need to lie down for a little while.”
When you feel like you’ve thoroughly mingled with the other guests, or
your host tells you to, move on and work through Round 2a – Rumours.

ROUND 2A
RUMOURS
Have you noticed that some of the other guests seem a little nervous?
Many of them harbour secrets that, if told, may implicate them in
tonight’s horrific crime. So, I’m sure you’ll agree, these secrets are worth
sharing. Choose someone at the party to dish the dirt on, and let the
others know what they’re hiding.
BUT BE CAREFUL - remember there’s a murderer here!

INNOCENT OR GUILTY?
Your host will now ask you to take part in a random draw to find out if you
are innocent or guilty.
In the following two rounds, you will be interrogated by the other guests
as each tries to establish who the murderer is. Answers to their questions
are listed under two categories: “If You’re Guilty” and “If You’re Innocent”
– you should use the answers that correspond to the status that you have
just randomly drawn.
You will also interrogate the others as you aim to solve the murder (or
lead people astray if you are indeed the killer). Questions are listed in
dialogue format and are appropriate to your character- time to embrace
your character and showcase your acting talents!
Break a leg!

ROUND 3
MOTIVES
(Evidence: Lord Moorbourne’s Last Will and Testament)
Detective Hughes has returned and provided some much-needed insight
into the possible motives behind this murder. Use the questions below to
grill the other guests. The aim of this round is to avoid being accused of the
murder by casting doubt on the innocence of others. The overall question
here is- Who had a strong enough MOTIVE to commit the crime?
This evening couldn’t possibly have gone any worse. I warned my father
that his invite list was rather odd, why do you think he invited you? I mean,
why are you even here?
Before this evening when did you last speak to my father? We all know he
can have a foul temper and that his mood changes with the passing hour,
were you on good terms by the end of your conversation?

Seems to me like the person who committed this crime knew exactly where

I’ve seen you hold back your temper throughout the evening, did you just
