designed to involve all students in internal competitions and then to a final stage.

DESCRIPTION
The contest is divided into two stages:
The first stage involves the selection of finalists in the classroom and then the final
contest. Both stages of the contest will follow the same procedures. During the first
stage, teachers will give students the opportunity to present their topic individually,
thus supporting the teaching-learning processes in the development of the two
productive skills (writing and oral expression), taking care of their approach to the
methodology and contents of the program.

participant's effort. Teachers may assist in proofreading but should be aware that
it is not legitimate to interfere or make improvements to the speech.
4. The speech will be submitted in hard copy to your English teacher in the following
format: Word program, double spaced, on a letter size sheet of paper, a cover
page with the contestant's personal information must accompany the speech
when it is submitted. It must include the title of the speech and the student's
personal information.
THE SPEECH
1. The content of the speech should deal with topics related to religion, values and/or
environment.
2. The speech must be the result of the participant's own efforts and will not be
allowed to participate if this topic was presented in previous competitions. A
speech that contains a verbatim copy from the Internet or any other source will be
disqualified.
3. The participation time per speech will be as follows:

3.1 Category A 4 to 5 minutes (48-60 lines).

3.2 Category B 5 to 7 minutes (60-84 lines).

METHOD OF GRADING THE PARTICIPANTS

outside persons to make up the judging panel. Three impartial judges will be
selected to evaluate the speakers' efforts. School personnel from outside the
English staff who are not teachers of the participating students may be invited to
serve on the judging panel.
2. There should be a maximum of 12 participants in the final level contest. In inter-
school competitions participation is open. The order of participation will be
determined by drawing lots. This draw will be made by the people in charge of the
contest and the order of participation will be displayed in the school's English
coordination office beforehand. In inter-school contests the order of participation
will be according to the order of registration.
3. Judges will receive copies of the speech outline prior to the competition in order
to review the general idea of the speech before the actual presentation.
4. Judges will be asked questions after each speech. They will grade contestants on
their ability to respond effectively. The judges will determine the number of
questions to be asked taking care not to exceed three.
5. Scoring will be as follows:
• 5 points on organization and content
• 5 points possible for vocabulary (word choice) and grammar (correct
structuring of speech).
