Assignment 2 FV
11. Give Darcy’s formula and Chezy’s formula for loss of head due to friction and explain them.
12. Find the head lost due to friction in a pipe of diameter 300 mm and length 50 m, through which
water is flowing at a velocity of 3 m/s, using Darcy’s formula and Chezy’s formula for which
C= 60.Take kinematic viscosity of water is 0.01 stoke.
13. Find the loss of head when a pipe of diameter 200 mm is suddenly enlarged to a diameter of
400 mm. The rate of flow of water through the pipe is 250 litres/sec.
14. With Reynold’s experiment, explain laminar flow and turbulent flow.
15. An oil of specific gravity 0.7 is flowing through a pipe of diameter 30 cm at the rate of 500
liters/sec. Find the head lost due to friction and power required to maintain the flow for a
length of 1000 m. Take υ= 0.29 stokes.
16. An oil of viscosity 0.1N./m² and relative density 0.9 is flowing through a circular pipe of
diameter 50mm and of length 300mm.The rate of flow of fluid through the npipe is
3.5litre/sec. find the pressure drop in a length of 300m .
17. The velocity of water in a pipe 200mm diameter is 5m/s.The length of the pipe is 50m. Find
the loss of head due to friction, if f= 0.08.
18. Crude oil of kinematic viscosity 0.4 stoke is flowing through a pipe of diameter 300 mm at
the rate of 300 litres/sec. Find the head lost due to friction for a length of 50 m of the pipe.
19. The water is flowing through a tapering pipe having diameters 300 mm and 150 mm at a sections 1
and 2 respectively. The discharge through the pipe is 40 litres/sec. The section 1 is 10 m above
datum and section 2 is 6 m above datum. Find the intensity of pressure at section 2 if that at section
1 is 400 kN/m2 .
20. Find the loss of head when a pipe of diameter 200 mm is suddenly enlarged to a diameter of 400
mm. The rate of flow of water through the pipe is 250 litres/sec.
21. The rate of flow of water through a horizontal pipe is 0.25 m3 /s. The diameter of the pipe which is
200 mm is suddenly enlarged to 400 mm. Determine loss of head due to sudden enlargement (he)
