Lesson 1: Introductions and Personal

Information
Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to introduce themselves and others, and ask
and answer questions about personal information.

Materials:
- Flashcards with names, countries, nationalities, occupations, and hobbies.
- A worksheet for writing a personal profile.
- Audio clips for listening practice (optional).

Warm-up (10 minutes):


1. Greet the student and engage in small talk.
2. Play a quick ice-breaker game: "Two Truths and a Lie" (each person says two true things
and one false thing about themselves; the other person guesses the lie).

Introduction to Topic (5 minutes):


Explain the importance of being able to introduce oneself and exchange personal
information.
Show the list of topics to be covered.

Vocabulary (15 minutes):


1. Names and Titles:
- Mr., Mrs., Miss, Ms., Dr.
- First name, last name
2. Countries and Nationalities:
- Examples: Japan (Japanese), USA (American), UK (British), France (French)
3. Occupations:
- Examples: teacher, doctor, engineer, student
4. Hobbies:
- Examples: reading, traveling, cooking, sports
Practice Activity 1 (10 minutes):
Flashcard activity: Show flashcards with words and have the student repeat them.
Match countries to nationalities using flashcards.

Grammar Focus (10 minutes):


Present Simple Tense:
- Positive sentences: I am a student. He is a doctor.
- Negative sentences: I am not a teacher. She is not an engineer.
- Question forms: Are you a student? Is he a doctor?

Practice Activity 2 (10 minutes):


Role-play: Practice introducing yourself and asking about personal information using the
present simple tense.
Example dialogue:
- A: Hello, my name is [Name]. What's your name?
- B: Hi, I'm [Name]. Where are you from?
- A: I'm from [Country]. And you?
- B: I'm from [Country]. What do you do?
- A: I'm a [Occupation]. What about you?
- B: I'm a [Occupation]. What are your hobbies?
- A: I like [Hobby]. And you?

Listening Practice (optional, 10 minutes):


Play an audio clip where two people introduce themselves.
Ask comprehension questions about the clip.

Writing Activity (10 minutes):


Have the student write a short personal profile, including name, nationality, occupation, and
hobbies.
Example:
- My name is [Name]. I am from [Country]. I am a [Occupation]. I like [Hobby].

Wrap-up and Review (5 minutes):


Review key vocabulary and grammar points.
Answer any questions the student might have.
Assign homework: Write a paragraph introducing a fictional character using the vocabulary
and grammar learned.
