PRACTICAL 4

TITLE - SODHI’S ATTITUDE SCALE [S.A.S]

AIM- To assess the attitude of the subject using Sodhi’s attitude Scale

BASIC CONCEPT [MAIN HEADING]

INTRODUCTION-
Attitude is a general predisposition to respond to an object in either favorable or unfavorable way. Attitude
plays a central role in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships. Attitudes are important
phenomena in the field of education. It is one of the fundamental responsibilities of the educationists to
develop positive attitudes among students towards socially desirable goals. Attitudes are commonly held
to have three essential components or dimensions:

1.Affect dimension- It involves the emotional aspects of the attitude such as likes, dislikes and feelings.
2.Behavioural dimension- It involves the extent to which an individual is prepared to act on the attitude that
he/she holds.
3.Cognitive dimension– it involves the beliefs and rationalization that explains the shaping of attitude.

RELIABILITY & VALIDITY

METHOD- [MAIN HEADING]
Preliminary Information
● SUBJECT’S NAME- XYZ
● SUBJECT’S AGE- PUT YOUR AGE
● SUBJECT’S SEX- MALE/FEMALE
● SUBJECT’S EDUCATION- STUDENT(CLASS-12)
● Date of conduction- 12/10/23
● Place of conduction- PSYCHOLOGY LAB

MATERIAL REQUIRED
SAS test booklet, SAS response sheet, SAS manual, SAS scoring key, pencil, eraser

RAPPORT FORMATION
The subject was called to the psychology lab and was made to sit comfortably. A friendly conversation
was held by asking her/him about her/his schooling, her/his parents, friends and her/his interests in
general. When the subject felt at ease, she/he was asked if she was ready for the test to begin. After an
affirmative answer from her/him, she/he was given the following instructions

INSTRUCTIONS
The subject is seated comfortably. The examiner explains the purpose of the test. The following
instructions are given to the subject: “There are 5 parts of this scale and you will attempt all the 5 parts.
In every item of the scale one statement is given and you can have three kinds of feelings about each
item. You may either agree with the statements or disagree with it or may be indifferent to the opinion
given in it i.e. neither in favor nor against it or uncertain i.e., not sure of your opinion. In case you agree
with the statement, mark ‘Yes’ on the response sheet. If you disagree with the statement, mark ‘No’. If
you are indifferent or uncertain, mark ‘?’. No item is to be left undone. You may take your time.
Generally, students complete all the scales within 45 minutes. If for any reason you have to change your
answer, you may cross the wrong answer and encircle the correct one. Be honest in your answers. You
are assured that your responses will be kept confidential.”

Precautions
1. The room should be well lit and well ventilated.
2. There should not be any noise in the room.
3. The seating arrangement should be comfortable.
4. There is no time limit.
5. Instructions should be made clear to the subject.
6. No item should be left unanswered.
7. Proper rapport should be established before starting the practical.
8. It should be made sure that only one answer has been marked for each question.
9. It should be made clear to the subject that their answers must be marked inside the boxes.
10. Make sure that the key and questionnaire which is being scored are properly aligned; the number in
front of the questions on the inventory should correspond with the number of the key.

Introspective report
As given by the subject
Eg- "I found the experiment very interesting and easy. However, in the beginning I
was
excited and nervous at the same time that I will make a mistake somewhere."
(THIS IS SAMPLE INTROSPECTIVE REPORT, YOU WILL ASK YOUR SUBJECT
HOW DID SHE/HE FEEL DOING THE TEST AND ASK HIM/HER TO WRITE
DOWN THE SAME. SIGN WITH DATE.)

Behavioural Report
Your observation of the subject
Eg- My subject was a little nervous at the beginning. But since it was a simple task,
he became calm and performed it without any difficulty. I explained the entire
procedure once and he interpreted the instructions correctly
(THIS IS A SAMPLE BEHAVIOURAL REPORT)

SCORING- [MAIN HEADING]

The answer-sheets have been designed for hand scoring. Table 2 is providing the score value of yes
responses and serves as a scoring key. For each area only the value of Yes has been given as + or, against
each item. If the value shown for the item is positive and (i) the student has marked Yes in his response,
give him + 1 ; (ii) if he has marked No give him 1, (iii) if he has marked sign of *?, give him (0).
Conversely if the value shown for an item on the scoring key is negative and the (i) student has
responded Yes give him 1. (ii) if he has marked No, give him +1. (iii) In case he has encircled sign of *?
give him (0) in this case too. When you have scored one scale add the scores of items algebraically and
that will be the score of the individual. Thus each individual will get five separate scores on the five
scales. These should be recorded on the back page of the answer sheet printed thereon. For easy scoring,
a transparent scoring key is also provided.
