Conference Title
Opportunities and Challenges in the Evolving Korea and South Asia Partnership:
Exploring Historical, Cultural and Economic Dimensions
Venue: Amity Education Valley, Gurugram, Haryana
Date: 13-14 November, 2024
A two-day international conference aims to analyze how the historical legacy ensuring cultural
proximity has influenced bilateral cooperation and shaped economic and diplomatic ties between Korea
and the countries in South Asia. The objective of such a scholarly gathering is to critically examine the
role of culture in redefining cross-cultural communication affecting bilateral relations. The themes/sub-
themes of the conference are not limited to culture alone but focus primarily on contemporary issues in
Korea that have bearing on its relations with other South Asian countries. The ongoing expansion of
Korean popular culture in South Asia, growing people-to-people connect, trade and investment relations,
the aging of Korean society, increasing demand for foreign manpower, and the expanding footprints of
corporate Korea in the region are some of the issues that call for an in-depth scholarly investigation.
The sole objective of the conference is to encourage and shape the next-generation scholarship
committed to expanding Korean Studies in this part of the world. Call for papers aims to bring mature
scholarship to discuss some of the pressing issues between Korea and South Asian nations. Moreover,
conference organizers are particularly keen to welcome graduate and post-graduate students to share
their research-based findings about Korea’s engagement with South Asia.
To give a local flare to the conference, a vibrant Korean society residing in the National Capital is
mobilized to express its perspectives and practical concerns about Korea’s relations with India in
particular and South Asia in general. A few scientists with a keen interest in various cutting-edge
technological fields are encouraged to share their out of the box thinking. Additionally, conference
encourages both government and non-government sectors to provide an alternative insight that can help
leaders and policy makers to revitalize Asia-Asia cooperation.
The conference intends to attract a multi-disciplinary audience, including scholars and students not only
from Korean studies departments but other related fields. To enhance people-to-people connect,
the conference intends to showcase Korean culture through live cultural performances. Organizers are
committed to the best possible academic outcome from this scholarly gathering. Selected papers would
be published in the ‘Conference Proceedings’ but if the budget allows then an edited book could be a
reality.
Note: Paper presenters are requested to submit their curriculum vitae along with an abstract of not more
than 300 words. However, presentation at the conference requires a minimum of 3000-4000 words
