2. Draw a flow chart about following modules of underground coal mining (UCM) by showing
procedure, technical parameters/design guidelines including statutory provisions for safe
mining:
• Indian Status Coal Mining
• Stages in the life of the underground coal mine
• Access to the mine
• Development of Stratified Deposits
• Bord and Pillar (B&P) method of mining
• Longwall method of mining
• Mining Under Difficult Geological Situations
• Stowing

3. Draw a layout of continuous miner-based mechanized depillaring panel. What are different
methods of pillar extraction using continuous miner technology. Explain manner of pillar
extraction using Split and Fender Method including design applied support system and strength
of coal pillar.
Assume:
Pillar size: 36 m x 36 m (Centre to Centre)
Gallery width = 6 m
RMR= 48
Density of immediate roof = 2.4 t/m3
Bearing capacity of resin grouted roof bolt = 20 t
Depth of cover = 250 m

4. Draw a layout of retreat and advance longwall panels. Design the development of roadways,
cut through, chain pillars and support system for a retreat longwall panel considering following
conditions.

Strike

Coal seam

Dip

RMR= 50
Depth = 600 m
Proposed roadway width= 5.5 m
Immediate roof up to 4 m highly laminated
Density of immediate roof=1.6 t/m3
Bearing capacity of resin grouted roof bolt= 20 t
Bearing capacity of bulbed flexi bolt= 60 t

5. Draw a wedge cut and Fan cut for Blasting-off-Solid in underground coal mine. Evaluate
powder factor, detonator factor considering following parameters.
Pull-out length = 1.3 m
No. of short hole = 18
No. of detonator used = 18
Size of bord (gallery) = 4.8 m width and 3 m height
Density of coal = 1.4 t/m3

6. What are the different Statutory provisions before, during and after extraction of depillaring.
7. Factor affecting longwall mining.
8. Write down the factor of safety of solid pillar, fender, rib/snook.
9. Draw a diagram of cable-truss support system.
10. What is periodic weighting? What are different methods for predicting peridia weighting?
11. Write down the name of different standing and reinforcement support system with their bearing
capacity.
12. What are the different mining methods for extraction of thick seam. Explain cable bolting based
depillaring method and required support system.
13. How to estimate Caveability Index? Write down the classification of Caveability Index and its
consequences around line of extraction.
14. What are different types of line of extraction? Explain with suitable diagram.
15. What are different types of goaf management? What are the different techniques to induce
caving of hanging roof in goaf if roof is difficult to cave.
16. Estimate recovery and pillar strength using Sheorey (1992) and Salamon and Munaro (1967)
formulations for developed seams considering
Pillar size (centre to centre): 40 m x 40 m, depth of cover= 280, height of working=3 m
26 m x 26 m, depth of cover = 150 m, height of working=3 m
Gallery width for both cases 6 m
Uniaxial strength of coal = 25 MPa
