三、閱讀測驗 (18%,一題 3 分)
One way to save memories and culture is to make a time capsule. People often put examples of the latest technology in them. They
can help people in the future understand what life was like when the capsule was made.
Time capsules are usually buried in the ground and are meant to be opened in the distant future. Last year, the city of Raleigh,
North Carolina, US, opened a time capsule that had been buried 50 years earlier, in 1967. Although the capsule was sealed, and many of
the items were in plastic bags, some things in it were damaged by water. An excited crowd watched as a local business owner opened
the capsule and showed everyone the items. They included newspapers, radio show recordings, films, and a key to the city. It also had
letters with guesses of what life in 2017 would be like. Some of the people there had lived in the town in 1967 and were interested to see
items from their childhood and adolescence. The time capsule items are now dry and kept at the City of Raleigh Museum.
Middle school students from Raleigh also buried a new time capsule to be opened in 2067. Some of the items it contains are T-

A Caesar salad is a delicious mix of lettuce, garlic, olive oil, dressing, eggs, croutons, and other items. Many people think the
Caesar salad is related to Julius Caesar, the Roman emperor. In fact, the salad has nothing to do with the ancient leader. It was created in
July 1924 in an Italian restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico. A rush of customers ate at the restaurant during the US’s July 4th Independence
Day holiday, using up most of the food in the restaurant. The restaurant’s owner, Caesar Cardini, created a new salad out of the
ingredients he could find in the kitchen. The salad was an instant hit. Caesar salads are still popular and are available in most Italian-
style restaurants today. (Unit 4)
