LISTEC
ADDRESSABLE HEAT DETECTION AND
TEMPERATURE MONITORING
System
SEC20 List
OVERVIEW OF
THE SYSTEM
LISTEC IS A SIMPLE YET PERFECTLY DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED ADDRESSABLE HEAT
DETECTION SYSTEM THAT, DUE TO ITS SIMPLICITY, CAN BE UTILISED IN A VARIETY OF HARSH
ENVIRONMENTS. THE SEC 20 SYSTEM IS CUSTOMISABLE IN BOTH ITS CONSTRUCTION AND
ITS COMMISSIONING, MEANING IT CAN BE TAILORED TO OVERCOME ANY CHALLENGES THAT
IS THROWN ITS WAY.
Essentially the system consists of two main parts; the sensor cable and the sensor control
unit. The sensor cable is a fire resistant, very robust low smoke zero halogen cable that has
very accurate heat sensors hermetically sealed inside at customisable intervals. The List
sensor control unit is the brains of the system, it reads the temperature from the sensors
every 1-10 seconds, evaluates the change in temperature and then stores the information. If
any alarm thresholds are met along the length of the cable, either by exceeding a set
temperature or a rate of rise percentage the SCU will go into alarm or pre-alarm and can
initiate any pre-existing alarm or suppression systems.

TUNNEL FACILITIES
Tunnel fires are extremely dangerous
and can be very costly. The enclosed
spaces and limited escape facilities
mean that there is a unique risk
associated with tunnel fires. The Listec
SEC 20 system has been designed
specifically to work within tunnels. It
can cover large areas, with one
controller covering up to 3,200m, the
total area covered can also be
increased by using multiple controllers.
As the system is operating in very harsh
conditions it has been designed to be
impervious to dirty air, vibrations and
knocks and bumps. The system can be
programmed to be fully redundant, so it
will work even if damaged to the point
of destruction in a certain area. SEC20
can also be integrated into the safety
processes of the tunnel and can initiate
fire fighting, smoke extraction and
emergency lighting systems.
CASE STUDY -
BLACKWALL TUNNEL
Following its refurbishment in
2020 the Blackwall tunnel
under the river Thames was
fitted with 1,400m of SEC20
sensor cable. The system was
configured to be fully
redundant so any damage to
the cable wouldn't affect the
system's ability to work. The
system was also integrated
into the pre-existing fire
safety infrastructure so in
case of a fire the emergency
responses would work
autonomously and rapidly to
keep everyone safe and to
reduce the damage caused.
CASE STUDY - STEINHAUS TAXLBERG
MOTORWAY TUNNEL
A car set on fire following a breakdown in the Steinhaus-
Taxlberg motorway tunnel which led to a major rescue
operation on the Innkreis motorway in 2021. There was
extensive damage to the tunnel walls and also the tunnel
electrics. After the blaze was eventually extinguished it was
found that the SEC 20 cable alone survived the fire without
losing its functionality, showing how resilient and tough it is.
LARGE CONVEYOR
SYSTEMS
Large conveyor systems bring
unique challenges when trying to
identify a fire quickly, as it can be
difficult to catch a fire that is
moving before it has done
significant damage. The Listec
SEC20 cable can be
manufactured with one meter
sensor spacings and can be
attached directly to the
conveyor, the system can also be
commissioned to detect the
sensors every second. This
condensed monitoring means
that the system is able to pick up
on any temperature change on
the conveyors very quickly .
CONVEYORS IN
TUNNELS
The SEC 20 system is perfect
for use on large conveyor
systems that are run through
tunnels. One attribute that
lends itself to this kind of
project is the atomisation that
the controller brings. The SEC
20 system can be used to
atomise emergency lights,
ventilation, emergency stop
switches, sprinkler systems
etc. Another attribute is the
fact that every sensor has an
individual address, so if one
does go into alarm, the fire
can be located and dealt with
very quickly.
SOLAR FARMS
The SEC20 system works to not only protect the solar panels
from over heating and burning, but also to work with the
panels to improve their efficiency. As the system is a heat
detector it can work to detect environmental factors like
shadow which may effect the efficiency of the system.
The SEC 20 system can also integrate with the solar panel
systems to avoid a fire entirely by activating equipment like
cooling sprinklers after a temperature threshold has been
met.
MINE SHAFTS
The issues associated with finding the correct fire
safety system within a mine shaft are very similar to
the issues found in tunnels. The dirty air and irregular
airflow mean that catching a fire or an increase in heat
can be difficult for air aspirating systems or systems
that are pervious to dust. SEC20 has its sensors
hermetically sealed inside so can work perfectly in
these conditions. The robust nature of the cable is
also conducive for use in mine shafts.
HOW WE OPERATE
WE ARE OPEN PROTOCOL
"It is Cables Britain's desire to work with the complete chain of stake
holders within the fire detection market place. We train engineers to utilise
the unique in-house software and the full package of Commissioning,
Installation, Maintenance and Service. It is our intention to supply and
design only, with the Fire Specialists engaging their clients in the way they
do best! If required we could assist with commissioning of your first order"
