Title: Parental Influence, Environment, and Personality Factors on Strand Selection of Grade 10
Students: A Structural Equation Model (SEM)
Simpal et al. (2024) examined the impact of parental influence, environment, and personality factors on
the strand selection of Grade 10 students. The findings suggest that environmental factors have a
significant effect on students' choices, with parental guidance playing a key role in the decision-making
process.
Title: Exploring the Determinants of Senior High School Track Preference among Grade 10 Students: A
Comprehensive Study
In this study they found that academic performance, career prospects, personal interests, and parental
influence were the most significant factors influencing students' choice in choosing their track.
Academically strong students chose the academic track, while those struggling chose the technical-
vocational-livelihood (TVL) track. Career prospects were crucial, as students believed they would have
better job opportunities. Personal interests and skills also influenced track preferences. Kilag et al.

Title: Preferences in Senior High School Tracks of the Grade 10 Students
The study of Moneva and Malbas (2019) explored how gender, socio-economic status, academic grades,
parent's occupation, and family influence. Their findings showed that male students consider their socio-
economic status and parent's occupation, while female students consider their peers. It was also found
that family influence, peer influence, financial condition, and employability were also significant factors
in students' choices.
Title: Internal and external factors affecting the strand preferences of Grade 10 students in Divine Word
College of San Jose
The study of Celmar et al. (2024) investigates the internal and external factors influencing strand
preferences of 129 Grade 10 students. It found that parents' expectations and beliefs significantly
influence their child's academic track preferences. External factors like parental interest, financial
condition, peer influence, and job opportunities also impact strand preferences. Job opportunities were
the most significant factor, indicating students sought employability and stability. The study
recommends a career week for students and parental support in decision-making.
Title: The Mathematics Performance and the Track Preference of Grade 10 Students
Baucas (2024) examines the mathematical performance of grade 10 students at Narvacan National
Central High School and its influence on their Senior High School track/strand. The research used a
survey questionnaire and found that students' mathematics performance is considered "Fair" and their
preferred track is Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS). The study also found a significant
relationship between mathematics performance and respondents' profiles, STEM, HUMSS, and TVL
track/strands. However, there was no relationship between mathematics performance and the
preferred strand of students choosing ABM.
