The Chrism Mass will be held at Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral in Moncton on

Tuesday, March 26th, 2024 at 10:00am. The celebration will be presided over by
Archbishop Guy Desrochers. The Chrism Mass is an important event to which all faithful and
priests are invited. During this beautiful celebration, priests and deacons renew their
commitment to service. Holy Chrism used in the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and
ordination is consecrated. Also, the oil of the catechumens, and that of the sick are blessed.
This solemn occasion is an opportunity for the priests and faithful of the diocese to come
together and reaffirm their dedication to proclaiming the Gospel and building the Kingdom of
God.
Dear Friends in Christ,
It is with great joy that I celebrate with you this sacred and holy season.
HE IS RISEN!
With these words I opened my Easter greetings to you last year, really as
we were coming out of the pandemic lockdowns. I was so proud of everyone,
We had come out stronger than when we went in. God had worked wonderfully
through His Church.
He hasn’t stopped!
Basking in the glow of Father Mark Cherry’s Lenten Mission, I am overwhelmed by the love
and commitment of our community’s faith. Prayer and service are such powerful hallmarks of a
healthy church. We are blessed to have been granted the graces to have both vigorously expressed
in our communities.
I was speaking with someone the other day about how there had been so many lean years in
our churches, but the faith of the people and the hard work that was needed to keep things going
has brought us to this blossoming of the faith. We are Easter people; but there is no Easter without
Good Friday. Let us continue together!
On behalf of Father Damian and myself, I wish you a Holy Easter, I wish you the blessings that
come from a complete immersion into Holy Week.
God Bless All of You,
Fr. Angus Johnston

Easter Triduum: The Easter Triduum is one liturgy celebrated over three days. The three days—sundown on
Thursday to sundown on Sunday—together are the culmination of the Church’s liturgical year. It is often
called the Christian Passover. The Triduum, the most sacred celebration of our Church year, invites us to
remember all that God has done and continues to do for us through Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.

Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper March 28th

Evening Mass: We remember the Passover feast of the Jewish people and the Last Supper of Jesus with
his disciples when we celebrate the Eucharist this evening. We also remember our call to service by Jesus
when we do as he did and wash each other’s feet. In this evening’s collection, you are invited to deposit your
Lenten Coin Folders. Following Communion, the Blessed Sacrament will be transferred to a chapel in the
Church basement which will remain open until 10:00pm for private prayer. The stripping of the alter will take
place following the liturgy.

Good Friday Family Way of the Cross March 29th 10:30am St. Augustine’s
During this celebration adapted especially for children, we will follow the Way of the Cross, tracing Jesus’
steps along the road to Calvary. At each station we pause to reflect, and pray for Jesus’ support and help in
our lives.

Good Friday Celebration of the Lord’s Passion March 29th 3:00pm

Good Friday is the only day of the year on which the celebration of Mass is not permitted. Today we enter
and leave the Church in silence. Good Friday is a universal day of fast and abstinence. On Saturday, we are
invited to observe the Paschal Fast in union with our candidates. Friday and Saturday are not days of idle
entertainment, shopping, party-going, etc. These are days for prayer and meditation, to wait - to keep
vigil - for the first feast of Easter.
Easter Vigil March 30th 8:00pm Our Lady of Mercy / St. Augustine’s

This is the highest Holy day of the Christian year when the Church of God watches with lamps burning
brightly, like faithful servants, waiting for the Master’s return. On this night, we will light the new fire, hear the
stories of God’s creation and covenant, gather around the font and renew the promises of our baptism, and
finally, celebrate the sign of our communion with one another in the Eucharist.

Easter Sunday March 31st

Easter day: The joyful celebration of our Lord’s rising continues. Alleluia! meaning “praise to God!” is our
shout of joy.
Easter season: For fifty days, the people of God reflect on the meaning of Jesus’ resurrection and of their
sharing in it through baptism: dying to sin and living for God. For seven weeks we celebrate the presence of
Jesus among us. We celebrate his ascension and pray to him, seated in glory with the Father. As we prepare
for Pentecost, we ask him to fill us with the grace and power of his Spirit.
