Adolescence can be affected by stress at one time or another, and it can feel overwhelming. With the
right tools, though, you can learn to manage stress before it takes a toll on your health. Managing daily stress
can also lead to a more overall positive outlook on your life and well-being.
A/_______2_____
Physical activity is one of the most effective stress busters. That doesn’t mean you have to go for a jog if
you hate running. Find activities you enjoy and build them into your routine such as yoga, hiking, biking,
skateboarding or walking. The best types of physical activities are those that have a social component. Whether
you’re into team sports, or prefer kayaking or rollerblading with a friend or two, you’re more likely to have fun
— and keep at it — if you’re being active with friends.
B/ _____________
Between homework, activities and hanging with friends, it can be hard to get enough sleep, especially
during the school week. Ideally, adolescents should get nine hours a night. Most teens, though, are getting less.
According to APA’s Stress in America Survey, teens say they sleep an average of just 7.4 hours on a school
night. That’s unfortunate, since sleep is key for both physical and emotional well-being. To maximize your
chance of sleeping soundly, cut back on watching TV or engaging in a lot of screen time in the late evening
hours. Don’t drink caffeine late in the day and try not to do stimulating activities too close to bedtime.

3
C/_____________
School is important, but it’s not everything. When you plan your week, schedule time to get schoolwork
done, but also schedule time to have fun. When it’s time to enjoy yourself, try not to worry about school or
homework. Focus on having fun.
D/_____________
Besides physical activities, find other hobbies or activities that bring you fun. That might be listening to
music, going to the movies or drawing. Make a point to keep doing these things even when you’re stressed and
busy.
E/_____________
Spend some time really thinking about the things you’re good at, and find ways to do more of those
things. If you’re a math ace, you might tutor a younger neighbor who’s having trouble with the subject. If you
are a spiritual person, you might volunteer at your church. If you’re artistic, take a photography class. Focusing
on your strengths will help you keep your stresses in perspective.
F/____________
It’s so much easier to manage stress when you let others lend a hand. Talk to a parent, teacher or other
trusted adult. They may be able to help you find new ways to manage stress. Or they may help put you in touch
with a psychologist who is trained in helping people make healthy choices and manage stress.
III. Read the passage below and fill each blank with one suitable word (1.0p).
Most students, in their own countries have had little opportunity to practice using English. When foreign
learners first have the ( 1 ) ………. to speak to an English-speaking person they may have a shock: they often
( 2 ) ………… great difficulty in understanding. I’ll just mention three of the possible reasons for this.
First, it seems to students that English people speak very quickly. ( 3) ..……… , they speak with a
variety of accents. Third, different styles of speech are used. For all of these reasons ( 4 ) ……….. will have
difficulty, mainly because they lack everyday practice in listening to English people speaking English.
( 5 ) ………….. can a student do then to overcome these difficulties? Obviously, attend English classes
and if a language laboratory is available, use it as ( 6 ) ………… as possible. He should listen to programs in
English on the radio and TV. Perhaps, most important of ( 7 ) ……………… , he should take every opportunity
to meet and speak with native English-speaking people.
In addition, the student probably has difficulty in speaking English fluently. The advice here will seem
( 8 ) ………. to follow but it’s necessary. Firstly, he must simplify what he wants to say so that he can express
himself reasonably and clearly. Secondly, he must try to think in English, ( 9 ) ………… translate from his
mother tongue. This will only begin to take place when his use of English become automatic; using a language
laboratory for listening to as much English as ( 10 ) …………... will help.
IV. Read the passage and choose the best answer A, B, C or D for each question. (1.0p)

The Cu Chi Tunnels are part of a massive war museum in Ho Chi Minh, which has been preserved by
the government of Vietnam, and turned into a war memorial park with two different tunnel display sites, Ben
Dinh and Ben Duoc. They offer visitors a sneak-peek at the underground life of Vietnamese soldiers back in
1948. The site has over 120km of underground tunnels, with trapdoors, living areas, kitchens, storage facilities,
armoury, hospitals, and command centres. After the war against the French, Vietnamese soldiers expanded the
tunnels and included effective air filtration systems, which helped them survive the Cu Chi carpet-bombings.
The Ben Duoc site contains part of the original tunnel system, while the Ben Dinh site, closer to Saigon urban
sites, has their reconstructions made larger to accommodate tourists. In both sites low-power lights have been
installed in the tunnels to make traveling through them easier, and both sites have displays of the different types
of booby traps that were used. Underground conference rooms where campaigns such as the New Year
Offensive were planned in 1968 have been restored, and visitors may enjoy a simple meal of food
that Vietnamese former soldiers would have eaten.
The Cu Chi Tunnels is now one of Ho Chi Minh’s most iconic attractions. You can enjoy plenty of
activities during your visit. A popular option is following the narrow routes of the underground tunnel. Before
entering the underground tunnels, visitors watch a short film of the Cu Chi Tunnels so that they understand how
the tunnel system works. Parts of Chu Chi Tunnels are also cemented and widened, so that the crawl is less

4
harrowing than it would have been in the past. There are emergency exit points every 10 metres for safety. Do
note that the 100-metre crawl through the underground tunnels may be unsuitable if you have breathing
difficulties.
Above-ground attractions include caged monkeys, vendors selling souvenirs, and a shooting
range where visitors can fire a number of assault rifles. Cu Chi Tunnels has considerably changed into a new
image. It is also the ideal place for eco-tourism because of the safe and sound atmosphere.

III. Read the following passage and choose the best answer for each question. (20pts)
There are many theories about the beginning of drama in ancient Greece. The one most widely
accepted today is based on the assumption that drama evolved from ritual. The argument for this view
10
goes as follows, in the beginning, human beings viewed the natural forces of the world, even the
seasonal changes, as unpredictable, and they sought through various means, to control these unknown and
feared powers. Those measures which appeared to bring the desired results were then retained and
repeated until they hardened into fixed rituals. Eventually stories arose which explained or veiled the
mysteries of the rites. As time passed some rituals were abandoned, but the stories, later called myths,
persisted and provided material for art and drama.
Those who believe that drama evolved out of ritual also argue that those rites contained the seed
of theater because music, dance, masks, and costumes were almost always used. Furthermore, a suitable
site had to be provided for performances, and when the entire community did not participate, a clear
division was usually made between the "acting area" and the "auditorium." In addition, there were
performers, and since considerable importance was attached to avoiding mistakes in the enactment of
rites, religious leaders usually assumed that task. Wearing masks and costumes, they often impersonated
other people, animals, or supernatural beings, and mimed the desired effect - success in hunt or battle,
the coming rain, the revival of the Sun - as an actor might. Eventually such dramatic representations
were separated from religious activities.
Another theory traces the theater's origin from the human interest in storytelling. According to
this view, tales (about the hunt, war, or other feats) are gradually elaborated, at first through the use
of impersonation, action, and dialogue by a narrator and then through the assumption of each of the roles by
a different person. A closely related theory traces theater to those dances that are primarily rhythmical and
gymnastic or that are imitations of animal movements and sounds.

Part 2. Questions 66 – 75 (2.0 points - 0.2/ each)
Read the passage below and choose the best answer to each question
Since water is the basis of life, composing the greater part of the tissues of all living things, the crucial
problem of desert animals is to survive in a world where sources of flowing water are rare. And since man’s
inexorable necessity is to absorb large quantities of water at frequent intervals, he can scarcely comprehend
that many creatures of the desert pass their entire lives without a single drop.
Uncompromising as it is, the desert has not eliminated life but only those forms unable to withstand its
desiccating effects. No moist-skinned, water-loving animals can exist there. Few large animals are found. The
giants of the North American desert are the deer, the coyote, and the bobcat. Since desert country is open, it
holds more swift-footed running and leaping creatures than the tangled forest. Its population is largely
nocturnal, silent, filled with reticence, and ruled by stealth. Yet they are not emaciated. Having adapted to their
austere environment, they are as healthy as animals anywhere else in the word.
The secret of their adjustment lies in the combination of behavior and physiology. None could survive if,
like mad dogs and Englishmen, they went out in the midday sun; many would die in a matter of minutes. So
most of them pass the burning hours asleep in cool, humid burrows underneath the ground, emerging to hunt
only by night. The surface of the sun-baked desert averages around 150 degrees, but 18 inches down the
temperature is only 60 degrees.
