Noli Me Tangere (1887) and El Filibusterismo (1891) are very powerful books that feature
the social, political, and religious wrongs that the Spanish colonial rulers of the Philippines
indulged in. The books were so crucial to the emergence of a Filipino nation and even
motivated the reformist campaign. Rizal's literature catalyzed the Filipinos who longed for liberty and
fairness.

Legalities
Rizal’s Deportation to Dapitan:
Following his apprehension in 1892 for his leadership role in La Liga Filipina, Rizal was whisked to Dapitan, a
distant locality in Mindanao. While staying
there, Rizal did not give up his reform endeavors which included the setting up of a school, a hospital, and his
fulfillment of agricultural and civic projects, all that through his perseverance in his works, despite his remote
location in the Spanish government.

Rizal’s Execution:
On December 30, 1896, a Spanish firing squad executed José Rizal who was incriminated in the acts of
rebellion, sedition, and conspiracy. His killing was carried out even
without having convincing proof that he was the direct actor involved in the revolt that was initiated by the
Katipunan. This deed resulted in his being identified as a martyr which in turn brought power to the revolution
movement against the Spanish reinforcement.

Ethical Standard
Peaceful Reform and Education:

Rizal held the opinion that freedom as well as independence can be gained through peaceful and educational
reform. He stressed the role of informing the masses and the execution of the colonial government through
banned and peaceful means rather than through violence. Rizal was a person of conscience who believed that
the right way to be truly free is through the moral and intellectual development of a partition.

Contributions:
Literary works
Rizal's novels, *Noli Me Tangere* (1887) and *El Filibusterismo* (1891), exposed the Spanish colonial
government's oppression of Filipinos and its alliance with the Catholic Church. These powerful literary works
ignited nationalism and self-determination among Filipinos by highlighting the dishonesty of local rulers. Their
unfavorable depictions of authority figures fueled a growing national consciousness and inspired the struggle
for freedom. During oppressive times, the public distribution of these works challenged social discrimination
and sparked resistance.
Promotion of Education and Intellectual Development
José Rizal knew and believed that education is the way to remove all bad habit from us. He held that an
educated people was important for national development and independence. Rizal's advocacy of education was
evident in his promotion and encouragement for the establishment.
Founder of La Liga Filipina
The organization founded by Rizal on July 3,1892 is called the La Liga Filipina which initiated an important
part of rye reform movement. They wanted to unite the Filipino people and improve their lives through non-
violent means, like defending rights of Filipinos, emphasizing on education for workers onstage 2essay

ANDRES BONIFACIO

EVIDENCE
Historical evidence of Bonifacio's contributions to the revolution is
documented in works such as Teodoro Agoncillo's "The Katipunan and the
Revolution" (1990), Gregorio Zaide's "The Rise and Fall of Andres Bonifacio"
(1995), and Milagros C. Santos's "Andres Bonifacio: Life, Times, and Works"
(2014). These texts offer detailed accounts of his role and sacrifices in the
fight for Philippine independence.

LEGALITIES
Bonifacio’s recognition as a national hero is supported by Executive Order No. 271,
signed by President Manuel L. Quezon in 1935. This legal acknowledgment affirms his
contributions to the country's history
Andres Bonifacio, one of the leaders of the Philippines Revolution was executed in 1897
for treason and sedition against the revolutionary government which was headed by
Emilio Aguinaldo.

ETHICAL STANDARD
Ethically, Bonifacio’s dedication and significant sacrifices embody the values of heroism.
Carlos Magsaysay's "The Philippine Revolution and the Role of Andres Bonifacio" (2010)
discusses how his commitment and influence on national identity align with the ethical
standards of heroism.

CONTRIBUTION:
Andres Bonifacio was the founder of the Katipunan, a militant nationalist secret society
that led the rebellion against Spain. Bonifacio declared Philippine independence in 1896
in the wake of the execution of his hero and mentor José Rizal. He is remembered as a
nationalist proletariat hero and father of the anti-colonial revolution, alongside Rizal. Like
Rizal, he was remembered in celebrations of the pasyon, which framed him as a modern
Christ figure.
