work. He has always worked hard. In his twenties, when he first started work for the
company, he did a lot of lifting and carrying. Now he is a building site manager and sits at a
desk for most of the day. When Peter first started work, over 20 years ago, he was slim.
Now he has a big belly.
b Give two reasons why Peter now has a big belly.
Peter has a big belly now because he consumed an unhealthy food which contains too much energy
which will cause the energy to be stored as fats and becoming overweight. In addition, his energy input is
more than his output so there is not balance causing him to become overweight. Also he is not having any
physical activities to release some of these fats.

Because the energy input will resume more than the output when he is not having physical activities also
