Q1. Consider the equation x2+5 = y , where x is an element of the set

A = { 2, 1, 0, 1, 2} and y is an element of set B.

a. Write Down all the ordered pairs (x, y) that represent this relation.
b. Write Down the elements of set B
c. Draw a mapping diagram to represent the relation between
set A and set B

Q2. (Research)
The following graph shows a relationship between x and y on the Cartesian plane:
A function is a very specific type of relationship between two variables. Is the
relationship represented by the graph above a function?
Justify your answer by giving reasons or evidence to support your conclusion.

Q3.
d

I. Write Down in words what the relation could represent.

ii. Justify why the relation is a function.
iii. State the domain and range.
iv. Write down one specific ordered pair in the function.

a. Predict the missing values in the table.

b. Describe the pattern in words you observe in the table regarding the number of
squares.
c. Derive a general rule for A (the number of squares) in terms of n (diagram number)
d. Test your general rule for A .
e. Verify your general rule for A.

Q5. Push-ups are a fast and effective exercise for building strength. These are helpful in almost
all sports, including athletics. While the push-up primarily targets the muscles of the chest,
arms, and shoulders, support from other muscles helps in toning up the whole body.

Nitesh wants to participate in the push-up challenge. He can currently do 3000 push-ups in one
hour. However, he wants to achieve a target of 3900 push-ups in 1 hour, for which he practices
regularly. With each day of practice, he is able to do 5 more push-ups in one hour compared to
the previous day.

If, on the first day of practice, he does 3000 push-ups and continues to practice regularly, how
many days will it take for Nitesh to reach his target of 3900 push-ups?

Keeping the above situation in mind, answer the following questions:

a. Justify why the progression of Nitesh's push-ups per day forms an arithmetic
progression.
b. Calculate the number of days Nitesh will take to achieve his target of 3900
push-ups in one hour.
c. Calculate the total number of push-ups Nitesh will have completed after
reaching his target, assuming he practices for the same number of days without
missing a day.
