Architectural Layout and Features:
Area: A total of 232.6 square meters (2,505
ft²), consisting of three floors.
Entrance and Main Floor (Second Floor):
The main entrance is accessed via a
walkway through the forest. This floor
features an open-plan living and dining
area. Floor-to-ceiling windows and
floating staircases provide uninterrupted
views of the stream and forest. The
terraces at the front and back offer
seamless transitions between indoor and
outdoor spaces.
First Floor:
Guest Room: This floor includes a guest
suite that opens to a private terrace. Suspension House
Technical areas are also located on this CA, United States
5 floor, ensuring the functionality of the
home.
Third Floor:
The master bedroom suite is
located on this newly added
upper floor. This floor is
positioned at a 90-degree angle
to the rest of the building,
creating a better relationship with
the natural surroundings. The
roof terrace extends from the
master bedroom, offering
expansive views that connect with
nature.
Guest House: A separate guest
house located along the path to
the main structure serves as an
art studio and auxiliary space,
creating compatible outbuildings
that harmonize with the
landscape.
6
Relationship with nature:
The goal in this unique area
was to enhance the building's
relationship with the nearby
bodies of water and rocky
surfaces. Instead of
pressurizing and disturbing the
stream below, the new
structural system anchored the
house to the bedrock on the
slopes of the hill, allowing it to
hang entirely above the water.
By opening up the site lines
and using open-concept
outdoor spaces with
transparent materials, floor-to-
ceiling windows, transparent
floors, and floating staircases,
the natural water features can
be viewed from both the front
and back of the house.

The Up House project is composed of five
separate masses, which are integrated and
arranged with simple design concepts and
well-connected with each other through
corridors. The project meets all demands of a
family, consisting of a shared living room, a
kitchen, three bedrooms, a storeroom, and a
bathroom. The masses are cornered in a way
that best suits the directions of the land. As a
result, the front of the property faces south to
welcome cool breezes. The different heights of
masses enable the higher ones to cast
shadows on the lower ones, producing the
smallest surface associated with the sunlight
UP House
yet still allowing ventilation around the masses. MAS Architects
All the masses are closely surrounded
by the courtyard garden and trees,
allowing the living space to be in
harmony with the beautiful nature.
The trees surrounding are all local
trees casting vast shadows on the
ground and generating economical
benefits such as grapefruit, starfruit,
sabodilla, dracontomelon, etc.
Underneath the green foliage is a
playground and hang-out area for
children to play around on the lawn.
Several sections could be intended
for raising poultry for daily meals, like
chickens, rabbits, birds, etc…The
elevated first floor brings the
clearance to the ground of the house
and helps avoid humidity from land
and, at the same time, fight against
invasive species such as rats, snakes,
etc…

The entire rooftop is designed to
dry farm produce and other
family agricultural products. It
comprises of 2 layers, turning
itself into a natural oven and
quickly aiding the drying. All the
rainfall will be drained down
directly to an underneath
detention tank, which then can
be used for recycling water
sources and watering plants.
The overall plan not only creates
the new architecture but
addresses all farming
production requirements as well,
preventing farmer’s careless
drying and lower construction
costs.

A text description provided by the architects:
Moke Architects, together with la4sale,
designed a wooden house in Muiden. The
living/working house of the two founders of the
landscape agency la4sale had to have a
"landscape" appearance according to the
residents' vision of nature. The house featured
visible wooden construction, pergolas, views,
and a greenhouse on the roof. Designed by
Gianni Cito and la4sale partners, the house is
located in a new residential area near
Amsterdam, just behind the IJmeer
embankment. The residents wanted a home
where they could enjoy the landscape but also
have the necessary privacy. The house is
divided into two parts, a front and rear house
located at a distance from each other; an idea

suggested by the residents.

Living Work House - The residents, who are also
the clients, wanted a house that fully benefited
from the beautiful views of the lake while
providing a lot of privacy. The house is divided
into two sections: the front and the rear. The
front house opens to the garden and the IJmeer,
consisting of a kitchen on the ground floor and a
living room overlooking the water on the first
floor. The rear house has a more enclosed
volume, featuring a workspace on the ground
floor and a bedroom on the upper floor.
The front and rear houses form two square
volumes that are separated by pergolas at the
corners and connected to each other. The
pergolas consist of a wooden frame with
wooden slats, creating a space between the
interior and the exterior. This space is private
and facilitates a gradual transition between
indoors and outdoors. The slats are adjustable,
opening to provide an unobstructed view of the
IJmeer, while offering privacy when completely
closed.

The terrace floor plan: “Wood is a
central theme in the house and is
reflected everywhere,” the studio
explained. “Laminated black pine
beams, Frake exterior cladding, poplar
interior cladding, and Douglas fir floors
create a soft and natural environment.”
They added, “The concrete wall at the
center of the house's core also provides
a natural appearance, with the pattern
of the horizontal wooden slat mold
interacting with the grazing light that
falls along the floating steel staircase
from the greenhouse above.”

The proposed house is composed of two built
forms connected by a covered passageway. Out
of these two, one block is built using the cost-
effective experimental approach to construction
which includes:
RCC construction till the plinth
Load-bearing walls with rat-trap bond
Fabricated floor rested on brickwork
Shingle roofing to cover the house (lightweight
roof)
.
UP House
MAS Architects
Talking about a proposed
block shows a transition from
a diverse social space to a
singular private space which
resembles the house form of
old Havelis from the north to
Chettinad houses in the south
of India. As this house is
meant for the agriculturalist,
who seeks a pleural space
that accommodates many
things. In the rural context,
the threshold/ verandah plays
an important role where it is
connecting with the outside
world. Verandah is a key
kinetic space of the house
because of its multiple uses
throughout the daytime.
The courtyard in the house,
allows the house to breathe
and make way for daylight
inside. It provides an
additional room size in a
cramped dwelling space,
which is used for stacking
grains, seating or talking
with friends, sleeping at
night, etc. The opening of
the courtyard from the top
is covered with recycled
glass which traps the heat
at the top, while the
parallel wall on both sides
is perforated which allows
heated air to flow. A tree
placed in the court provides
shade and keeps the space
moist.
Beyond the courtyard, on the
upper floor of the house have
two bedrooms, which sit on top
of the cooking, and sleeping
space below. The bedrooms
above extend to the terrace,
which is open to the sky. This
terrace forms an important
plural space, especially for
women to conduct various
activities like making various
dried foods, pickles, etc.
Terrace allows a cool breeze to
enter the house during the
night from the west. This house
discusses the idea of a
progressive rural house model
with limited resources and
passive techniques for climate
control. The space-making
exercise attempted to make a
place for all, realizing the
lifestyle of the owner.
