Note: Solve the Questions in your Drawing Sheet

1. A fixed point is 70 mm from a fixed straight line. Draw the locus of a point P moving such a
way that its distance from the fixed straight line is twice its distance from the fixed point. Draw
a tangent to the curve at a point M 50 mm away from focus. Also name the curves.
2. Two fixed points A and B are 100 mm apart. Trace the complete path of a point P moving (in
the same plane as that of A and B) in such a way that, the sum of its distances from A and B
is always the same and equal to 125 mm. Name the curve.
3. The major axis of an ellipse is 100 mm long and the minor axis is 70 mm long. Find the foci
and draw the ellipse by "Concentric Circles Method". Draw a tangent to the ellipse at a point
on it 15 mm below the major axis.
4. The major axis of an ellipse is 150 mm long and the minor axis is 100 mm long. Find the foci
and draw the ellipse by "Oblong method". Draw a tangent to the ellipse at a point on it 25
mm above the major axis.
5. Inscribe an ellipse in a parallelogram having sides 150 mm and 100 mm long and included
angle of 120°.
6. A fixed point is 75 mm from a fixed straight line. Draw the locus of a point P, moving such a
way that its distance from the fixed straight line is equal to its distance from the fixed point.
Draw a tangent to the curve at a point M, 50 mm away from focus. Also name the curves.
7. Draw a rectangle having its height 125 mm and width 75 mm long. Inscribe a parabola in it
with vertical axis. Draw a tangent to the parabola at a point M 20 mm above the axis.
8. Inscribe a Parabola in a parallelogram having sides 100 mm and 70 mm long and included
angle of 120°.
9. A fountain jet discharges water from ground level at an inclination of 45° to the ground. The
jet travels a horizontal distance of 7.5 metre from the point of discharge and falls on the ground.
Trace the path of the jet. Name the curve.
10. A fixed point is 75 mm from a fixed straight line. Draw the locus of a point P moving such a
way that its distance from the fixed straight line is half of the distance from the fixed point.
Draw a tangent to the curve at a point M 50 mm away from focus. Also name the curves.
11. Two points A and B are 50 mm apart. Draw the curve traced out by a point P moving in such
a way that the difference between its distances from A and B is always constant and equal to
20 mm.
12. A point P is 30 mm and 50 mm respectively from two straight lines which are at right angles
to each other. Draw a rectangular hyperbola from P within 10 mm distance from each line.
13. Two straight lines OA and OB make an angle of 75° between them. P is a point 40 mm from
OA and 50 mm from OB. Draw a hyperbola through P, with OA and OB as asymptotes,
marking at least ten points.
14. A circle of 50 mm diameter rolls along a straight line without slipping. Draw the curve traced
out by a point on the circumference, for one complete revolution of the circle. Assume initially
the point is in contact with both circle and line. Name the curve. Draw a tangent to the curve
at a point on it 40 mm from the line.
15. A circle of 50 mm diameter rolls on the circumference of another circle of 175 mm diameter
and outside it. Trace the locus of a point on the circumference of the rolling circle for one

mm from the centre of the directing circle.
16. Construct a hypocycloid, rolling circle 50 mm diameter and directing circle 175 mm diameter.
Draw a tangent to it at a point 50 mm from the centre of the directing circle.
17. Draw involute of a hexagon having 25 mm side. Also, draw a normal and a tangent to it at a
point 70 mm from the centroid of hexagon.
18. Draw an involute of a circle of 40 mm diameter. Also, draw a normal and a tangent to it at a
point 100 mm from the centre of circle.
19. Draw and Archimedean spiral of one convolutions, the greatest and the least radii being 115
mm and 15 mm respectively. Draw a tangent and a normal to the spiral at a point, 65 mm from
the pole.
