HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENT (NOVEMBER 2024)

1. In a reaction 5.3gm of sodium carbonate reacted with 6gm of ethanoic

acid, the products were 2.2gm of carbon dioxide, 0.9gm of water and 8.2
gm of sodium ethanoate. Show that, these observations are in
agreement with law of conservation of mass.

2. The compound ammonia (NH3) is formed by the combination of one

nitrogen and three hydrogen atoms. Find out its ratio by mass.

3. The compound calcium oxide (CaO) is formed by the combination of one

calcium and oxygen atom. Find out its ratio by mass.

4. Which postulate of the Dalton’s atomic theory is a result of law of

conservation of mass?

5. List some drawbacks of the Dalton’s atomic theory.

6. Write down the nucleoid symbol for the elements- oxygen, sulphur,
nitrogen, sodium. Also specify the number of electrons protons and
neutrons in each case.

7. Define the atomic mass unit.

8. Can an atom of any element exist independently? Explain with the help
examples.

9. Classify the following as molecules of element or molecules of

compound -
