1. The table below shows values for the function y = ½x(5-x).

(a). Calculate the value of p. (1)

(b). Draw the graph of y=½x(5-x). (4)

(i). the maximum value of y, (1)

(ii). the range of values of x for which y is positive. (1)

(d) (i) Draw a suitable straight line, that can be used to solve the equation ½x(5-x) = x-1. (1)

(ii) Use the graph to solve the equation ½x(5-x) = x - 1. (2)

(e). Find the area bounded by the curve, the x-axis and the lines x = 2 and x = 4. (2)

(ii) the area enclosed between the graph and the line y = 2x and the lines x = 0 and x = 1,5. (4)

(c). By drawing a suitable straight line, solve the equation x³ = 3x. (4)

(c). Use the graph to

(i). solve the equation x² - 4x = 3 - x. (2)

(ii). find the equation of the line of symmetry of the curve y = x² - 4x. (2)

5. A boy playing on a swing has his velocity V m/s at a time t seconds given by V = t² - 4t + 4

(ii) the acceleration when t = 3. (2)

(d) Using the same axes, draw the graph of v = 10t. (1)

(e). The function v = 10t represents the velocity of a falling object.

(i) Use your graph to find the time when the boy and the object had the same speed (1)

(ii) Given that the boy and the object collided at the same time they had the same speed, use your graph
to find the distance the object had travelled (1)
