Qualitative analysis of Criterion 1
The College is geographically located at Dharwad on Poona-Bangalore road and managed by Karnataka
Northern Diocese Church of South India. The college has a minority status and follows the norms of minority
status. It started in 1968 with a mission of imparting higher education to uplift the promising youth from
agriculture families in and around Dharwad. The College is volunteering to the 3rd cycle of accreditation by
NAAC. The college is an affiliated institution that implements the curriculum as prescribed by the affiliated
university including the CBSC pattern. The institution is running UG program in 10 subjects under CBCS and
also started 4 year UG program under NEP, however, the same has been discontinued as per the order from the
State Govt. The college also offers more than 26 add on/Value added programs. The college has prepared an
academic calendar for dates prescribed by affiliated universities for each academic year, which consists of
dates of reopening, internal assessment tests, model exams, and semester closing dates that are followed
uniformly across all departments. Many faculty members were taking part in the design of curriculum, setting
of question papers, BOS and BOE members. The College is aligned with goals and objectives to make
students employable through holistic education and skill development besides, celebration/organisation of
birth anniversaries of eminent leaders, writers, scientists, and figures of national importance, days of national
remembrance, special days like; International Yoga Day. Cross-cutting issues relevant to environmental
sustainability, professional ethics, human values and gender have been addressed through various
programmes. The academic calendar is distributed to the students and faculty well in advance of the
commencement of the academic year.The revision of syllabus is done on regular basis through BOS of
University as it is a affiliating college of the University. The college takes some initiative in supplementing the
curriculum framed by the university. The college invites Guest speakers including various government
agencies to address on the topics such as safety, legal provisions, and assistance resources available for
women in India. The NSS, NCC, and YRC units of the college conducted awareness programs on various
issues relating to the Indian Constitution, social responsibilities, and legal rights using innovative strategies
like posters, pamphlets, and social media campaigns. Both informal and structured feedback on curriculum
and its delivery is collected from all stake holders including students, evaluated and communicated to all the
stakeholders. The result analysis of the student is done and remedial sessions are provided to the students who
need academic support.

The admission process is carried as per the direction of affiliating, university and government of Karnataka
following prescribed reservation policies. In the current academic year there are 754 students and having 26
faculty members results in to staff students ratio 1:29. The average enrolment of the college is 100% and more
than 75% students are admitted belonging to reserve category. The college assesses the students and identifies
the slow learners and advanced learners on the basis of internal assessments. For slow learners, the college
conducts remedial classes, mock tests, practice assignments and provide extra-reading materials. The
advanced learners are being motivated by the teachers to perform further and to attend enrichment classes. The
college has installed LCD projectors and smart boards in some of the classes to enrich the students. The
teachers adopt ICT based and innovative teaching techniques such as participative learning like fieldwork,
extension activities, outreach programmes and experiential learning like departmental associations, literary
clubs, research committee, exhibitions, and entrepreneurship training for the students. The college organises
special lectures by experts in physical/online mode to increase the students' access to global knowledge. The
college has a language laboratory having 18 functional systems equipped with software programmes for
language and soft skills training. The college follows affiliating university guidelines for continuous internal
assessments which includes written tests, seminar presentations, assignments, classroom participation, and
quizzes. The college has an Examination Grievance Redressal system to address the student complaints about
the evaluations and assessments. Being a private college the teachers are recruited by the trust. The teacher-
student ratio, as per the number of admitted students, is I: 29 during the assessment period. However,
presently only 26 teachers are on roll of the college . In total 11 teachers are having Ph. D. degree and six
qualified JRF/NET/SLET. The college has a mechanism for measuring POs & Cos and outcomes are
circulated to teachers and students. The overall pass percentage of students is more than 96 %, 04-06 students
are rank holders every year and five students are gold medallists. The college administration honours the
toppers and rank holders. The Principal of the college has been awarded Sahityashree Award by the Govt on
the basis of her contributions in the field of Kannada Language and also served as member syndicate to the
affiliating university and acdemic council member.

A Research Committee is formulated in the college and attempts are made to develop research culture among
the staff and to motivate the teachers to pursue Ph. D and to publish research papers. The College publishes its
annual magazine every year by highlighting the activities and achievements of students, teachers as well as
supporting staff. During, the last five years a total of 10 seminars and workshops on research methodology,
Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), entrepreneurship, skill development and quality were conducted. Apart
from this the departments of the College have conducted Guest Talks, Webinars and Workshops on various
topics of social issues like gender, women empowerment etc. Extension and Outreach programmes are carried
through different Cells. The Women Development Cell works on women centric issues. NSS performs
Cleanliness drive, Tree Plantation, conservation of water, plastic free campus, Blood Donation Camps
and Yoga awareness are organised . Birth and death anniversaries of great national leaders and national and
international days are also observed by the college.
The college has a strong wing of NCC. The students are actively participating in all the events as mandated for
NCC and 283 students have secured "B" certificates and 73 Students have obtained "C" certificate from the
NCC Unit in honour of their services. The NCC officer of the college has received Best NCC Officer Award
from the Chief Minister of the State in the year 2020, one of the NCC cadet represented in RD parade. The
NSS unit of the college adopted five villages under the UBA and conducted various extension and outreach
activities, and received several appreciation letters from the local bodies. The students of the college has got
3rd position in National Level Youth Competition. One of the student of the college participated in National
Yoga Competition and qualified as Yoga referee at state/national level. Some of students of the college
participated in sports activities at University/State/National Level. The college through its various clubs
organizing various extension activities like marches, rallies, and campaigns on topics such as women's
empowerment, environmental conservation, sexual molestations, digital literacy, swachata etc are bringing
awareness to nearby villages. The college has signed 19 MoUs with different local institutions in order to
enhance the knowledge of the teachers and the students.

Kittel Arts College is located in the heart of Dharwad city and its location is easy access for both students and
staff. The management of the college is running 5 institutions including the Kittel Arts College in a total area
of 3.32 acres of land, out of which with 2994 sq. m of built-up area earmarked to the college. The college has
14 classrooms equipped with 4 ICT enabled classes and 4 smart board. There are three laboratories for
Psychology, Geography and computer laboratory with 20 computers. All the classrooms are well ventilated,
spacious, mounted with LED bulbs and having Wi-Fi facilities and CCTV surveillance in the campus. The
college has a language laboratory having 18 functional systems equipped with software programmes for
language and soft skills training beside a Yoga Centre. The College has an auditorium with a capacity 300 and
02 Seminar hall. Academic events like conferences, seminars, talks, student activities etc are being hosted in
the auditorium and used by the teachers and students to practice and organize the fine arts and cultural events
in the college. The College has 50 computers in total, 10 LCD Projectors, speakers, sound system, audio video
aids, microphones, scanners, 05 Printer cum Xerox machines etc. Annual upgradation and maintenance of
Computers is done by an Agency in Hubballi. The campus if fully Wifi enabled. The college website is
monitored and updated from time to time. The college shares the sports ground and indoor games facilities
with other institutions of the same management in the premises. The campus is guarded round the clock by
vigilant security. The hostel facilities are provided to the needy girls/boys out side the campus in a
government hostels.
The college library is housed in a room with a built up area of 200 sq .m.. Further, the library is automated
with barcode technology, NLIST, e-lib version 16.2 and 10 computers are available in library for public access
(OPAC). The library has about 16000 and has a subscription of 12 magazines, 8 newspapers and few journals.
One LCD TV is installed in the library to present thoughts for the day, new arrivals of books, job
opportunities, news and budget sessions and important notices to the students every day. The library preserve
the very first “English-Kanada” dictionary written by Renowned Lixicographer Rev. Ferdinand Kittel.

The College also utilizes the canteen facility available in the premises for all institutions. The drinking water
facilities are sufficiently available in the campus. The college has a sick room and first aid facility. The
infrastructure of the institution is maintained by the support staff of the college. The professional agencies
have been hired for housekeeping and security to look after the cleanliness of the college and safety.

The college publishes its updated prospectus and calendar of events including all details related to the
curricular, extracurricular and co-curricular activities. An average of 75.12% students are getting scholarships
and free ships from the Govt. and some students benefited from student aid funds provided by the institution
for weaker and meritorious sections. An average of 44.06% students is benefitted by career counselling
offered by the college. For the last five years the college has organized a few capacity enhancement programs
and training. Progression to higher education is 23.17%. Students are given guidance for competitive
examinations and career counselling. During the last five years 46 medals are received for the outstanding
performance in University level examinations, sports and cultural events. A good number of sports and
cultural activities were conducted in the campus. Reading competition is held at the end of every academic
year, the winners are given cash prizes. Student Council and various Committees exist in the college. The
Grievance redressal cell functions actively. The institution strives hard to uplift the rural and socially
economically weaker youth students for their holistic development. The various student support services such
as grievance redressal cell, anti-ragging cell, Gender sensitivity cell, anti-sexual harassment cell exists in the
campus for maintaining healthy relationships between students. One student participated in national yoga
competition and qualified as yoga referee at national level.
The college provides opportunities for the students to participate in sports and games, cultural and extra-
curricular activities regularly. The institution has a systematic approach in the area of student counselling,
placement and mentoring. The Placement cell of the college is organizing job fairs, campus interviews for the
placements of the students. Career counseling cell is guiding and informing the students about various career
options, job roles and personal development. The progression to higher studies is about 23%.
The college has registered Alumni Association which meets on regular intervals. The Alumni supporting the
college in terms of financially and academically. A cash prize of Rs.25000/-are awarded to the meritorious
students by some alumni members. Some of the alumni act as resource persons and are invited as guests to
deliver special lectures in their areas of specialization. They provide guidance and suggestions for the
improvement of the institution and technical advice to manage and update the web-site. One of the Prominent
Alumni is the Additional Solicitor General of Govt of India, Feedback is also collected from the alumni to get
inputs for the improvement of the college.

The college is managed by Karnataka Northern Diocese Church of South India, Basel Mission Higher
Education Centre. The Basel Mission Higher Education Centre is one of the pioneering trusts since 1940 and
runs 20 institutions including three independent degree colleges and two schools in same premises. The
Principal of the college is the executive head responsible for effective implementation of the programmes.
Various cells such as placement cell, anti-ragging, grievance redressal and anti- sexual harassment cell etc.
met regularly and maintained the record of the minutes of the meeting and its implementation. The principal
usually holds meetings with all departmental heads and the members of different committees of the institution
to shorten out problems at the college and their consequent remedies. There is decentralized and participative
management through Principal, IQAC, HODs, various committees and departmental associations. The
functional committees and the in-charges are taking decisions in consultation with Principal and implement
the strategic plans of the institution. A participative culture is existing for the fulfilment of mission and vision
efficiently. Parents are given opportunity to participate in the college activities. The IQAC plays an important
role in ensuring quality of the functioning of administrative and academic units of the college. Periodic
meetings are held to assess the incremental academic growth of the institution as per the suggestions of
previous Peer Team. The library administration is done by the Librarian, Assistant Librarian, Library clerks
and library attendants. A Library Advisory Committee consisting of all HODs support the library in its
updating. Physical Director and sports committee organize sports activities in the college. The appointment
and promotion of employees is based on the service rules of the affiliating university and Basel Mission
Higher Education Centre. The college uses e-governance in admission, accounts and examination related
activities.
The college is extending few welfare measures for their employees, like granting duty leave for

seminars/workshops, supporting faculty pursuing part-time PhD courses, staff, and paid maternity leave to
female staff. The college has established a grievance redressal mechanism. The college has formed an anti-
ragging committee for the prevention of Sexual harassment of women, which is duly constituted as per the
guidelines of the state government.
A system of financial management exists in the college and Internal and External Audits are conducted
regularly.

Gender equality is achieved to a great extend. Safety, security and counselling facilities are provided.
Separate common rooms and wash rooms are available both for boys and girls. The Institution organizes
programs to create awareness among the girls gender sensitivity, laws related to women & health of women.
Mentors are allotted to address the issues to solve their academic, social or personal problems whenever they
need. Anti-Sexual Harassment and Anti-Ragging Cells ensure a secure environment. Women Cell reduces
gender disparities and never allows them to feel deprived. Women cell of the college organizes formal and
informal counselling to Girl students and organised Legal awareness classes on Women rights. Green Audit
and Energy Audits are conducted by expert consultants. The initiatives are taken for rain water harvesting and
engage the local community by way of conducting activities. Programs are organized for the promotion of
National Integrity, Universal Values, Communal Harmony and non-violence. The contributions of great
Indians are commemorated. All National Festivals are celebrated in the Campus. The practice of voluntary
community service in the nearby villages has been noted as the Best practice of the institution.
Another best practice is the involvement of the prominent Alumni and Retired staff in the developmental
activities of the institution. Many prominent alumni and retired faculty members visit the institution frequently
and have donated solar panels to the institution, which considerably reduces the electricity bill and in this way
helping the institution towards energy conservation. Also the alumni members and retired faculty members
accorded cash prizes to meritorious and poor and needy students. Few alumni members have donated
advanced computers to the institution and also they help the institution in renovation of the old building.

Providing an inclusive environment for students of diverse Socio -economic and cultural backgrounds is
considered as the distinctiveness of the institution. The institution is also having academic excellence of
producing aggregate results of more than 96% every year. The institution shows a highly student centric
approach resulting to obtain as many as 11 university rank holders, five gold medallists and 10 University
Blues in the assessment period.

Strength:
1. The college is having grant in aid from the government of Karnataka and 2f &12 B status of UGC.
2. The college is managed by a pioneering trust established since 1940 and runs 20 educational institutions.
3. The students of the college participate in the various sports events at the university, state and nationallevel.
4. The college is striving hard to provide the education to the rural-cum-geographically disadvantage, social
and economically backward region.
5. Meaningful extension activities through NCC and NSS units.
Weaknesses:
1. The good number of faculty positions are lying vacant.
2. The college cannot bring in any changes in curriculum, syllabus or evaluation system being an affiliated
college.
3. The socio-economic constraint of the students often affect their learning and digital competency as the
majority of the students hail from the rural background.
4. Insufficient linkage to industries which result in lack of consultancy, collaboration and MoU.
5. In sufficient mobilization grants from funding agencies.
6. The placement/internship rate is low.
Opportunities:
