UPPER LIMB BONES

FRACTURES AND INJURIES
Following are the bones and their respective fractures and injuries:-

 CLAVICLE ( COLLOR BONE) :

Clavicle is a long bone lying horizontally across the root of neck. It is one
of the most fractured bones in
the body.

FRACTURES:
The most
common fracture of clavicle is in
children from fall on
outstretched hand or during
sports known as “clavicular
fracture”.

SYMPTOMS:
The most common symptoms are pain, swelling and visible deformities
in some cases.

TREATMENT:
Its treatment can be a sling to the arm, pain relief medications or
surgery if fracture is severe.

 SCAPULA:
It is a triangular flat bone. It starts from 2nd rib and
ends at 7th rib.

FRACTURES:
It is well protected by muscles by its association with
thoracic wall so most of its fractures involves protruding of
subcutaneous acromion. But there
are some fractures like blade, neck
and body fractures. Most causes are
due to high trauma accidents.

SYMPTOMS:
Symptoms are pain,
swelling and limited movements.

TREATMENT:
Treatment for scapula fracture is ice, rest and for pain
doctors suggest pain-killers. And surgery if the fracture is severe.

limb and it has three parts; proximal, shaft and distal end.

 PROXIMAL HUMERUS FRACTURE:

It is most
common in elderly people with osteoporosis. It
is a fracture in surgical neck of proximal end.
Can also occur due to fall or with age.

SYMPTOMS:
Pain in shoulder and difficulty in moving it.

TREATMENT:
For treatment we can use a sling
and physical therapy for mobility.

 HUMERUS SHAFT FRACTURE:

It mostly occurs due to fall or any kind of sports injuries.

SYMPTOMS:
Symptoms are pain, swelling and visible deformities

TREATMENT:
We can use a sling and rehabilitation exercises.

being able to move the hand.

TREATMENT:
Cast for immobilization or surgery if fracture is severely displaced.

 FRACTURES OF METACARPALS AND PHALANGES:
