Method Statement for Concrete Works
1. Scope of Work
This method statement outlines the process for executing concrete works, including site preparation,
formwork installation, reinforcement placement, concrete pouring, finishing, curing, and testing. The
aim is to ensure the work is conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the project
specifications and relevant standards.
2. Responsibilities
Site Engineer: Supervises the execution, ensures quality, and compliance with project
specifications.
HSE Officer: Monitors safety protocols and ensures personnel adhere to safety measures.
Foreman: Manages labor and resources on-site.
Quality Control Team: Conducts inspections and ensures materials meet required standards.
3. Materials
Cement: Compliant with project specifications (e.g., OPC/Portland Pozzolana Cement).
Aggregates: Clean, graded, and compliant with specified size distribution.
Water: Potable and free from impurities.
Admixtures (if required): Approved and compatible with the mix design.
4. Equipment
Concrete mixer or batching plant.
Vibrators (needle and plate).
Transit mixers.
Concrete pump (if required).
Hand tools (trowels, screeds, etc.).
5. Procedure
5.1 Pre-construction Preparations
1. Review and approve concrete mix design.
2. Verify drawings, levels, and specifications for formwork, reinforcement, and concrete.
3. Ensure all required permits and approvals are in place.
4. Conduct a site inspection to confirm readiness.
5.2 Site Preparation
1. Clear the site of debris and unwanted materials.
2. Ensure the subbase is properly compacted and graded.
3. Provide a damp-proof membrane or lean concrete layer (if specified).
5.3 Formwork
1. Erect formwork as per design and ensure it is secure and leak-proof.
2. Apply release agents to formwork for smooth removal after curing.
3. Verify dimensions, alignment, and levels with approved drawings.
5.4 Reinforcement
1. Place reinforcement bars as per the structural drawings.
2. Ensure bars are clean, free of rust, and properly tied with specified cover blocks.
3. Conduct inspections before proceeding with concreting.
5.5 Concrete Placement
1. Transport concrete from the batching plant or mixer to the site using appropriate methods.
2. Pour concrete in layers to avoid segregation.
3. Compact the concrete using vibrators to eliminate air pockets.
4. Maintain the specified slump to ensure workability.
5.6 Finishing
1. Level the surface using screeds and floats.
2. Apply specified finishing methods (e.g., troweling, broom finish) as per design requirements.
3. Conduct initial surface protection (e.g., covering with plastic sheets).
5.7 Curing
1. Begin curing immediately after the initial set to prevent drying.
2. Apply curing methods such as water ponding, wet hessian, or curing compounds for at least
7-28 days, depending on specifications.
5.8 Demobilization
1. Remove formwork after the specified time, ensuring no damage to concrete.
2. Clear the site and dispose of waste materials appropriately.
6. Quality Control
1. Perform slump tests at regular intervals.
2. Cast and test concrete cubes/cylinders for compressive strength.
3. Inspect the work at each stage and address any non-conformance.
7. Health and Safety
1. Ensure all workers wear PPE (helmets, gloves, boots, etc.).
2. Mark and cordon off the work area to prevent unauthorized access.
3. Provide fire extinguishers and first-aid kits on-site.
4. Conduct daily safety briefings.
8. Environmental Considerations
1. Prevent concrete washout from contaminating soil and water sources.
2. Minimize noise and dust during operations.
3. Dispose of waste materials responsibly in compliance with regulations.
