### Class Notes: Adobe Photoshop Basics

1. **Introduction to Photoshop**

- What is Photoshop?

- A graphic design, photo editing, and digital art tool.

- Used for creating designs for web, print, and multimedia.

- Photoshop Interface:

- Menu Bar: Access to all tools and features.

- Toolbar: Contains tools for editing, painting, and more.

- Panels: Layers, Colors, History, etc.

- Workspace: Customizable to fit user needs.

2. **Document Setup**

- Steps to Create a New File:

1. Go to File > New.

2. Set dimensions (in pixels, inches, etc.).

3. Choose resolution:

- 72 DPI for web.

- 300 DPI for print.

4. Select the color mode (RGB for digital, CMYK for print).

3. **Working with Layers**

- What are Layers?

- Layers stack to create compositions.


- Think of layers as transparent sheets.

- Layer Operations:

- Add a new layer: Ctrl+Shift+N (Windows) / Cmd+Shift+N (Mac).

- Duplicate layer: Ctrl+J / Cmd+J.

- Delete layer: Drag to the trash icon in the Layers panel.

- Types of Layers:

- Image Layers, Text Layers, Adjustment Layers.

4. **Selection Tools**

- Move Tool: Moves objects or selections.

- Marquee Tools: Make rectangular or elliptical selections.

- Lasso Tools: Freehand or polygonal selections.

- Magic Wand & Quick Selection: Automatically selects areas based on color.

5. **Editing Tools**

- Brush Tool: Used for painting.

- Eraser Tool: Removes parts of a layer.

- Clone Stamp Tool: Copies parts of an image.

- Healing Tools: Remove blemishes or imperfections.

- Gradient Tool: Creates a blend between colors.

6. **Typography**

- Adding Text: Use the Text Tool (T) to add text layers.

- Formatting Text: Font style, size, color, alignment.

- Warp Text: Adds effects like arcs, bulges, etc.

7. **Image Adjustments**
- Brightness/Contrast: Adjusts overall lightness and darkness.

- Hue/Saturation: Changes color tones and saturation.

- Levels/Curves: For advanced tonal adjustments.

8. **Saving and Exporting**

- Save your file in PSD format to preserve layers.

- Export options:

- JPEG/PNG for images.

- PDF for print-ready documents.
