Instructions : Research further on the cephalocaudal and proximodistal patterns of
development. 1. Write an essay about your understanding about these patterns . 2. Analyze the difference between growth and development .
The cephalocaudal and proximodistal patterns represent the pattern of physical
and motor development. The cephalocaudal is a top to bottom principle, where development starts at the top and moves its way down. Moreover, it is the postnatal growth from conception to five months when the head grows more than the body. Infants learn to use their upper limbs before their lower limbs. The proximodistal asserts that development occurs at the center of the body. The muscle itself encompasses the legs, arms, fingers, and so forth. At this stage of development, the infant is capable of sitting before standing and standing before walking. I now comprehend the distinction and purpose of these two forms of development. In comparison, the two patterns of development in cephalocaudal the direction of growth starts from head to bottom, and the first thing that develops is the head, neck, shoulder, middle trunk etc. While on the other hand, the proximodistal the direction of growth starts from the center body start, and the first thing that develops is the muscles that includes the legs, arms, fingers and etc.
Analyzing the difference between growth and development appears to be similar,
however there are numerous distinctions. Growth refers to physical changes in size, such as increases in height and weight. Growth is determined by cellular changes; a kid matures into an adult. The child endures numerous transformations from childhood to adulthood. While in development, talents and abilities gradually expand over a lifetime and are a continual process. Development focuses on a variety of factors, including interpersonal skills and intelligence.
