1 Skills 2: Reading and writing
1 Read the text about popular free-time activities from around the world.

Falconry
Falconry is a popular free-time activity in Saudi Arabia. It is a traditional sport
that originated hundreds of years ago. It takes a long time to train a falcon, so
a falconer must be very patient. Sometimes a falconer has to carry a bird on his
arm for hours every day. The falcon season is from October to March.
Curling
Curling is a traditional winter sport that comes from Scotland, but is now played
in a few countries around the world. Players slide stones across ice towards a
circle target. Players can help the stone move by using a brush to sweep the ice
in front of it. Originally, curling was played on frozen lakes, but today games take
place in indoor ice arenas.
Gaming
Playing video games is popular all over the world and especially in the United
States. Over 164 million adults in the United States play video games! In fact,
in a survey of 18- to 25-year-old gamers from around the world, watching
gamers play video games was more popular than watching sports. On
average, gamers spend over six hours a week playing video games, making it
as popular as watching TV.
