GE3 - Unit 9 Robots Review (1st Sat)
A humanoid robot looks like people. It is 154 centimetres high and it weighs
58 kilograms. But many robots don’t look like people at all. There are even
bigger humanoid robots like the ones you see in science-fiction films.
Humanoid robots can do many things that humans can do, such as cleaning
or cooking or helping people in other ways.

One of the biggest robots is the space arm. It is a long, narrow robot. It is
about 15 metres long and it weighs over 400 kilograms. Astronauts use it to
fix space stations.
There are also smaller robots like this RoboBee. It’s about the size of a bee
– very tiny and light. It is 3 centimetres long and weighs 80 milligrams. The
RoboBee has got a camera and can fly, so scientists think in the future it
will search in very small places.
a. All robots have a head, two arms and two legs. ____

Robots come in many shapes and sizes. They can be tall, short, tiny or huge.
They are very different from us in lots of ways. Robots make our lives
easier. They are good at doing difficult jobs. They can work for long hours
without getting tired or bored. Some robots work in very dangerous places
– at the bottom of the sea and in outer space. Scientists are making better
robots all the time. They think that one day every home will have its own
robot to tidy bedrooms, wash the clothes or do other housework!

Scientists all over the world are working on the new type of robots –
humanoid robots that will look and act like humans. Their eyes can move and
blink, their muscles can change their facial expressions and they can move
around just like people do.
One of the most famous humanoid robots is Sophia. She is designed to show
a lot of expressions. Sophia can grind her teeth when she is angry, and she
can also raise her eyebrows. She will learn through conversations with
humans and other robots, and will keep getting smarter over time.
