About Primary 5 Scheme of Work
The scheme of work for Primary 5 is obtained from The Lagos State Gov-
ernment Ministry of Education’s Unified Scheme of Work for Primary
School. This scheme outlines the curriculum for students in their fifth
year.

This scheme of work is structured in detail about what subject will be


covered throughout the academic year. This will ensure that the pupils
are taught what is suitable for their age and class. This scheme will
make what is being taught in all the schools in Lagos state to align with
each other.

Subject

There are thirteen subjects in the Lagos State Unified Scheme of Work
for Upper Basic (Primary 5). Three broad subjects comprise these 13
subjects: Prevocational Studies (home economics and agriculture),
National Values Education (social studies, civic education, and security
education), and Basic Science and Technology (basic science,
information technology, and physical and health education).

These are separate subjects that have been combined to create one.
Essentially, Primary 5 covers 21 topics in all, including Arabic, which is an
elective. The following is a list of the topics taught in Upper Basic
Primary Class 5:

Introduction

National Values Education is a subject that instills moral and national


values to the pupils through selected topics and activities suitable for
their age and class. The subject comprises three broad subjects; Civic
Education, Social Studies, and Security Education. Each of these sub-
jects all have their topics and what they aim to achieve at the end of
the academic session.

Some of the topics treated in the National Values Education for Pri-
mary 5 include; Unity in cultural diversity, types of personal security,
process of changing culture and difference, loyalty, qualities of a good
leader, government, pressure group, personal security and child's right
law.

By the end of the academic session the educators should make sure
the pupils are able to maintain safety rules at home and school, iden-
tify types of government and the arms of government, list the security
agents, track down behaviors that could lead to threat to avoid punish-
ment.
