When testing and adjusting the transmission and power train,
move the machine to an area clear of obstructions, with safe
exhaust ventilation for the exhausts. Sudden movement of the
machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to

persons on or near the machine. To prevent possible injury, do
the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the
transmission and power train.

NOTICE
lG .
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
ree
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and
repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with
n
suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool
Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Cat products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and
mandates.
The following procedure is used in order to test the pressures of the transmission clutches.

Machine Preparation
1. Stop the machine. Engage the parking brake and turn off the engine.
2. Put blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels of the machine. Remove the differential drive shaft.

Pressure tap ports
(3) Caps
4. Remove caps (3) and install tooling (A) or (B) on pressure tap (J) and pressure tap (H).
Test Procedure
1. Start the engine.
2. Operate the engine at high idle either in the PARK position or NEUTRAL position. Record the gauge pressures. Pressure tap (J) is for clutch
8 and pressure tap (H) is clutch 5. Remove the tooling (A) or (B) and replace caps (3).
3. Remove caps (3) and install tooling (A) or (B) on the pressure tap (E), pressure tap (F), and pressure tap (K).
4. Operate the engine at high idle in FIRST SPEED FORWARD. Record the gauge pressures. Pressure tap (E) is clutch 1. Pressure tap (F) is
clutch 6 and pressure tap (K) is clutch 7. Remove the tooling (A) or (B) and replace caps (3).
5. Remove caps (3) and install tooling (A) or (B) on pressure tap (G) and pressure tap (D).
6. Operate the engine at high idle in SECOND SPEED FORWARD. Record the gauge pressure. Pressure tap (G) is for clutch 2 and pressure
tap (D) is clutch 4. Remove the tooling (A) or (B) and replace caps (3).
7. Remove cap (3) and install tooling (A) or (B) on the pressure tap (C).
8. Operate the engine at high idle in the FIRST SPEED REVERSE position. Record the gauge pressure. Pressure tap (C) is clutch 3. Remove
the tooling (A) or (B) and replace cap (3).
9. Refer to Table 2 for the correct pressures. If an adjustment is needed, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Initial Pressures - Test and Adjust".
10. Stop the engine. Install the differential drive shaft and engage the parking brake. Replace all the covers and the guards.
