CIRCULAR S15 of 2024: RETENTION OF GRADES R-12 2023/2024 ANNUAL TEACHING
PLANS INCLUDING REVISED SCHOOL BASED AND EXAMINATIONS FOR THE 2025
ACADEMIC YEAR
1. The Department of Basic Education (DBE) issued Circular S33 of 2022. This circular
pertains to the Annual Teaching Plans for the 2023 and 2024 academic years.
2. The 2023 Annual Teaching Plans for Grades R-12 provided guidance on the
implementation of the recovery of learning. The 2023 Annual Teaching Plans were
scheduled to be implemented in 2023 and 2024.
3. The Annual Teaching Plans were accompanied by the revised School Based Assessment
and examination weightings, and other key assessment requirements for implementation.
4. This Circular S15 of 2024 seeks to inform all relevant stakeholders that the 2023 Annual
Teaching Plans and Revised weightings and requirements to the School Based
Assessment for learners in Grades R-12, will continue to be implemented in 2025 until
they are revoked.
5. Circular 33 of 2022 is attached as Addendum A for ease of reference.
6. You are kindly requested to bring the content of this Circular to the attention of all provincial
and district officials, principals, teachers of both public and independent schools, and other
relevant stakeholders.
