INTRODUCTION
1 Introduction
This manual describes how to mount and connect power to a TM-301 chassis using the AC-
DC UNIT 1RU 285W. The unit is designed to supply two independent 48V power outputs.
Each output is 285W. The outputs are completely independent and can be used for redundant
power supply of high availability systems.

SAFETY INFORMATION
2 Safety Information
2.1 Preconditions — Power Installation
When performing a power installation with Infinera equipment ensure that the following parts
are met.
Only authorized personnel shall install the equipment. To avoid personal injury from
electrical shock and against spread of fire.
The installation personnel should have the proper authorization to carry out the power installa-
tion required by the country in concern.
The installation shall be in conduction with national and local regulations.
The installation shall be made according to applicable standards including national and local
deviations and be fully documented. E.g. Standards: in USA, National Electrical Code; in Can-
ada, Canadian Electrical Code, in other countries, IEC 60364 -1 (Low-voltage electrical
installations).
Power and protective earth cable shall fulfill its requirements in terms of dimensions,
isolation and material specifications.
E.g. Standards: in USA, UL 60950-1; in Europe, EN-60950-1, in other countries, IEC 60950-1
(Information technology equipment - Safety).
External Surge Protective Devices (SPD) shall be used at the AC power service en-
trance for AC powered devices.
Because of the short circuit risk between live parts and the equipment, never connect
or disconnect energized power cables.
2.2 Personal Safety Considerations
Any operations at service access area may cause personal injury. Only personnel au-
thorized by Infinera are allowed to carry out any operations at Service Access Area.
Potential risks should be identified before installation. Examples of such risks could be heavy
lifts, jewelry (possibility of electrically short circuits and/or physically get caught in the equip-
ment), sharp edges at the chassis or a potential broken item. Never work alone during the
installation.
2.3 Electrical Safety
Never use ESD wrist straps when working with the power supply installation.
The system shall have protective earth connection before the power is turned on.

3.2 Connections
3.2.1 Input Connectors
Connector type: panel inlet with PE pin, IEC 60320 type C14.
For independent operation of the two rectifiers (when used as redundant power supply), the
two rectifiers inputs should be fed from separate distribution fuses and phases.
3.2.2 Output Connector
Screw terminal block accepting: up to 4mm2(AWG10) wire.
Recommended stripping length: 9mm.
Recommended tightening torque: 0.6-0.8 Nm.
Note that output cables must be selected minimum 1.5mm2(AWG16) for open (non layered/
bundled) cable layout. Voltage drop or use of layered/bundled cables may require use cables
with larger cross sectional area.
3.2.3 Extra Chassis/Ground Connections
In addition to the front panel screw terminal blocks, there are three M5 threaded holes at the
rear part of the unit, intended for chassis/ground connection using cable lugs. These holes are
placed one at each of the left/right side walls and one at the rear panel - all three marked by
ground symbols. Screws used must not enter the unit deeper than maximum 6mm.

ELECTRICAL DATA
4.4 Output Overcurrent and Short Circuit Protection
Each rectifier have a built in electronic current limiter This current limiter activates at 19-26A.
For very short duration overloads (< approx. 0.5s). this circuitry will limit output current. In ad-
dition, the output power switch is implemented as a 6A overcurrent electromagnetic circuit
breaker.
4.5 Output Circuit Breaker / Power Switch
Each of the two outputs have a 2-pole power switch. Since the switch is 2-pole, it ensures that
output voltage or current will not be delivered in OFF position - regardless if the DRU is used
in a plus- or minus grounded application.
This switch is implemented as a 6A overcurrent electromagnetic circuit breaker. The selection
of such a circuit breaker is not for security reasons, the current limiter provides overcurrent
and short circuit protection.
4.6 Output Parallel Connection
The DRU outputs are not intended for parallel connection - neither within the DRU or to other
DRUs
4.7 EMC
The unit fulfils class B - conducted and radiated emission (FCC and EN55022).
4.8 Rectifiers LEDs
The LED on each of the two rectifiers is bi-color green/amber and has the following possible
indications.
Table 7 LED Indication
Indication Condition
Off No AC power to the rectifier
Solid green Output ON and OK
Blinking Amber Output Failure (overcurrent, overvoltage or undervoltage)
Solid Amber Fan Fail or Output Stand-by due to overcurrent or undervoltage

SITE HANDLING
5 Site Handling
5.1 Mounting Depth Adjustment
The mounting brackets are normally mounted in line with the front panel, but can also be
moved to a position 25mm behind the front. In order to do so, remove the eight screws shown
below, move the brackets to the new position and again apply the screws.
Fig. 4 Mounting Depth
5.2 Modification for 21” Mounting
When shipped as AC-DC-1RU-285, two extra mounting brackets are by-packed for 21"
(25mm vertical hole pitch) mounting.
Fig. 5 Bracket Extensions
In order to modify the DRU for 21" mounting, the six screws shown in Fig. 6 must be removed.

5.3 Modification for 23” Mounting
When shipped as AC-DC-1RU-285, two mounting bracket extensions and the necessary
screws are by-packed.
Fig. 7 Bracket Extensions
For conversion to 23" (1 1/4" vertical hole pitch) mounting, these parts are assembled accord-
ing to Fig. 8.

5.4 + or - Grounded Output Voltage
The DRU comes shipped with a jumper inserted between its "+" and "Gnd" output terminals,
making it ready for use in the most common, -48V (positive-grounded) systems. The internal
circuitry is however fully floating, so by moving this jumper between "Gnd" and "-", the DRU
can be used in +48V (negative-grounded) system.
Ensure that the system is not fed with mixture of positive- and negative-grounded supply
voltage
