Outstanding organs

eyes

stomach
lungs

The human body is made up of many parts, including

our organs. Each organ does an important job to keep
the body working. Here is some information about three
of our organs.

Eyes
Humans use their eyes to see the world around them.
When we look in the mirror, we see only a small part of

1
our eyes. Each eye is shaped like a sphere, and most of it
is inside the skull.

Have you ever noticed that a person’s eyes move

together? They are both connected to the brain, which
controls them and takes in information about what they
can see.

In the past, some people believed that different eye

colours had meanings. For example, the Egyptians
thought green eyes meant good health. Now, we know
that healthy people can have eyes of any colour!

Stomach
When we eat, the food travels from the mouth to the
stomach. Humans have one stomach, which is used to
break down food for energy.

Food needs to be broken into small parts so that the

body can move and all of its parts can work. The
stomach can make food into parts that would be too
small to see with our eyes!

Lungs
Most humans have two lungs. We use our lungs to move
air in and out of our bodies. Air contains a substance
called oxygen, which our bodies need to survive.

The lungs are connected to the mouth and nose. Put

your hand on your tummy. Take a long, deep breath in
through your nose, and let it out through your mouth.
Do you notice how the middle part of your body grows
as you breathe in? That is your lungs filling with air!
