Bhava (Houses)
Houses(Bhava) and Their Significance
Significators & Classification of Houses

In Vedic astrology, each house in the birth chart has a specific

"significator," also known as a "Karaka." These significators
represent the natural essence or the fundamental influence of a
house. Below is a list of the houses and their respective
significators:
1st House

Body, Appearance, Personality, Face, Health, Character, Temperament,

Intellect, longevity, fortune, honour, dignity, prosperity.

2nd House

Wealth, family, speech, right eye, nail, tongue, nose, teeth, ambition,
food, imagination, power of observation, jewellery, precious stones,
unnatural sex, loss by cheating and violence between life partners.
3rd House

Younger brothers and sisters, cousins, relatives, neighbours, courage,

firmness, valour, chest, right ear, hands, short journeys, nervous system,
communication, writing- editing books, reporting to newspaper,
education, intellect.

4th House

Mother, conveyance, relatives, domestic environment, treasure, land,

house, education, lended property, hereditary tendencies, later portion
of life, hidden treasure, private love affairs, chest, interference in married
life by parents-in laws and family, ornaments, clothes.
5th House

Progeny, intelligence, fame, position, stomach, love affairs, pleasures,

and amusements, speculation, past birth, soul, position in life, artistic
talent, heart and back, proficiency in games, success in competition.

6th House

Disease, debt, dispute, miseries, injuries, maternal aunt or uncle,

7th House

8th House

Longevity, kind of death, sexual organs, obstacles, accident, unearned

9th House

Fortune, religion, character, grand parents, long journeys, grandson,

10th House

Profession, fame, power, position, authority, honour, success, status,

knees, character, karmas, ambition in life, father, employers and

11th House

Gains, prosperity, fulfilment of desires, friends, elder brother, ankles, left

ear, advisers, favourites, recovery of illness, expectation, son's wife,
wishes, success in undertakings.

12th House

Harm, punishment, confinement, expenditure, donations (given), marriage,

work related to water resorts, vedic sacrifice, fines paid, sexual enjoyment
outside wedlock, contacting sexually transmitted disease, weakness in
sexual act, sleeping comforts, enjoying luxuries, loss of spouse, losses in
marriage, termination of employment, separation from own people, long
journeys, settlement in foreign land.
Different Types of Lagna
Lagna

One's Ascendant, or Lagna, is the degree of the sign and Nakshatra (or
Constellation) specifically the Nakshatra Pada (also known as the division of
a Constellation into 4 different parts) which is rising on the Eastern Horizon
at the time of one's birth.
Surya Lagna

The Surya Lagna Chart, which is also another way used to analyse the
horoscope, is a chart in which the Sun's house is treated as the first house of the
horoscope and the enumeration of the other houses are made starting from that
rashi and continuing in sequence throughout the rest of the zodiac signs. Sun
lagna is important to determine the inner strength. Inner strength is also called
courage.

If a person is not courageous then he or she will not be able to get success.
Chandra Lagna

The Chandra Lagna Chart, which is also another way used to analyse the
horoscope, is a chart in which the Moon's house is treated as the first house of
the horoscope and the enumeration of the other houses are made starting from
that Rashi and continuing in sequence throughout the rest of the zodiac signs.

The astrologer will use the Chandra Lagna only to see from the perspective of
what one desires from his or her mind (Another note has to be taken here, ones
desires will always remain as desires and not always fulfilled in real life) since the
Moon's position is the reflection of the mind among planets.
Sudarshan Chakra

Sudarshan Chakra in Astrology (or Jyotish or Horoscope) is a

combination of the three charts - Lagna Kundli or Birth Chart,
Chandra Kundli or Moon Chart & Surya Kundli or Sun Chart.
Kalapurusha Kundali

The whole Zodiac consisting of 12 signs represents Kalapurusha.

Venus: Body Parts It Denotes: Overall physical appearance, face, facial expressions, eyes,

Saturn: Body Parts It Denotes: Lower body parts, legs, bones, knee, bone-joints, muscles,

Rahu: Body Parts It Denotes: Legs, neck, lungs and breathing.
Ketu: Body Parts It Denotes: Belly (stomach), feet and claws.
Kalapurusha Kundali
All of these are included in and as a single entity known as the Kalapurusha. As stated
earlier, Sage Parashara has mentioned that the Lagna and the Lagna Lord resemble the
Kalapurusha. Therefore, Sage Parashara had given a strong emphasis on the prime
importance of the Lagna and also the Lagna Lord. So, it is important for an Individual not
to ignore the position of their Lagna's (Rasi & Nakshatra) because it represents
individuality, character, behavior, attitude, intelligence, personality, etc. To sum up the

Different States of
Planets
Deepta Awastha

What is it?
Whenever a planet is exalted or in its exalted sign or degree, it is in Deepta Awastha. A planet is capable of providing maximum benefits in
this state. The planet is fully lit in this state. During dasha of a planet in Deepta Awastha, a planet gives wealth and property.

What are the Effects?

This state can be associated with courage, fame, wealth, property, material desires, long term happiness, appreciation and awards from the
government etc. The person is strong, brave and skilled. Such a person is also decent.
Swastha Awastha

What is it?
Whenever a planet is in its own sign or in Mooltrikon sign, it is said to be in Swastha Awastha. A planet gives auspicious results in this state. A
person achieves success in every field and is respected in the society. He is also able to defeat his enemies and receives wealth, respect and
property.

What are the Effects?

A planet is said to be in its own house in this state. It is able to provide maximum results in this state. A planet gives auspicious and
inauspicious results for the houses in which it is placed. If it is the lord of a house, it does the same. A person receives money, conveyance,
house, ornaments, material desires, good health, relaxation, good married life, children, promotion etc.
Mudit Awastha

What is it?
If a planet is in a friendly sign in a Kundali, it is in Mudit Awastha. A planet is happy and joyous in its friendly sign like a person is happy with his
friend. Due to the effects of Mudit Awastha, a person is inclined towards attaining wealth and property. Such a person may even take help
from others. When a planet is in Mudit Awastha, a person achieves success in life.

What are the Effects?

A planet in Mudit Awastha provides wealth and money. He is usually content and decent. Such a person receives, ornaments, good clothes
and vehicles. He is inclined towards religious activities and gets benefits due to the good behaviour of friends.
Shant Awastha

What is it?
If a planet is in a sign of an auspicious planet, it is said to be in Shant Awastha. The person is calm and patient. He has immense knowledge
about Shastras and is involved in doing charities. Such a person has a lot of friends. He may be at a high position in a government office.

What are the Effects?

This state provides mental peace to a person. The person is friendly and a good advisor. He is ambitious and interested in activities related to
writing. He gets profits in matters related to land and property. He is also interested in religious books and yoga.
Shakt Awastha

What is it?
The state in which a planet is, just before Asta Awastha is known as Shakt Awastha. A planet is not very strong in this state and is unable to
give maximum auspicious results. The planet is still able to help you defeat your enemies and accomplish tasks successfully. During the
dasha of a planet in Shakt Awastha, a person faces obstacles but is able to overcome them and achieve success.

What are the Effects?

During this state of a planet, a person receives respect in the society. He is happy in life. Such a person gets respect in the society and is able
to accomplish tasks successfully. The person receives sudden results in everything he does. The life may be filled with ups and downs, but
does not include too many troubles.
Peedit Awastha

What is it?
When a planet comes closer to Sun in a kundali, it sets down and is weak. The planet is not efficient to give results in this state. The
planet is said to be in Peedit awastha in this state and gives inauspicious results. The person may be involved with illegal or wrong
kind of activities. If the planet and the lord of the ascendant is in Peedit Awastha, the person may suffer from diseases. A planet’s
Peedit awastha leads to problems and disrespect in the society.

What are the Effects?

The person may lose money in life. He may also be involved in arguments and disagreements with his wife and children. Such a person may
even suffer from diseases. Especially, such a person may face eye troubles. The person may be disrespected for some reasons and may be
involved with illegal or wrong kind of activities. Such a person may have an addiction to something bad.
Deen Awastha

What is it?
When a person is in a debilitated sign, it is said to be in Deen awastha. A planet is powerless in such a state. The person has to face obstacles
in his life. He has to face financial trouble. Such a person is fearful of government officials. His close ones may become his enemies and he
break the laws of the society.

What are the Effects?

A planet in this state does not let the person succeed in whatever he does. The person is fearful of almost everything and may suffer from
health problems. Such a person may be opposed by close ones and may need to change his place of stay. He may even be disrespected by
others.
Vikal Awastha

What is it?
A planet is in Vikal Awastha when it is in a house or a sign along with malefic planets. It loses its power on being with a malefic planet in the
same way in which a person feels restless when he is in bad company. The planet does not give results according to its own capabilities. It
rather gives results based on the malefic planets which are placed with it. Such a person has all the negative traits. He stays in bad company
and feels powerless.

What are the Effects?

When a planet is in Vikal Awastha, a person feels powerless. The person may even be disrespected. Such a person may have to face
troubles with friends, family members, wife and children. A person gets involved with people who are not respected in the society and may
suffer losses because of theft or robberies.
Khal Awastha

What is it?
When two or more planets are in the same house or sign at a difference of 1 degree, they are in a state of war. The planet with a higher
number of degrees is defeated. The defeated planet is in Khal awastha. The person loses money and is usually aggressive. The person is
interested in other people’s money.

What are the Effects?

Due to the effects of Khal awastha, the person has feelings of enmity with others. Such a person is hurt by his own people. Such a person
may be aggressive and detached from his father. He may even even lose money and face losses related to land and property. The person
may be selfish and may want to earn money through illegal activities.
Dukhi Awastha

What is it?
A planet is in Dukhi Awastha when it is in the region of an enemy planet or resides in the sign of an enemy planet. A planet in this state faces
problems in the same way in which a person faces problems if he has to visit an enemy’s house. A person faces a lot of troubles due to the ill
effects of Dukhi Awastha.

What are the Effects?

A person may have to change his place of stay due to this state of a planet. He may be separated from his loved ones. The person is always
fearful of fire and thefts. Such a person is always confused and perplexed.
Types of Houses
Types Of Houses

Trikona Houses:
1, 5, and 9 are the Trikona or Trine houses. These trikona houses are
also known as Dharma houses.
Types Of Houses

Upachaya houses:
Houses 3, 6, 10 and 11 are the Upachaya houses or “houses of
growth”. Upachaya means prosperity. These houses store those
factors which can bring prosperity to your life. These houses feature
those matters which has the capability to grow until you get moksha.

Trik Houses:
6, 8 and 12 are the Dustana houses or houses of negative factors.
The 6th house is also known as Artha house means a house which
brings wealth. These houses deal with work and service through
which you can make wealth. The 8th and 12th house is also known
as Moksha houses. These houses represent the mysterious matters
like death and moksha.

Panapara Houses:
2,5,8 and 11 are the Panapara houses. Panapara means related
to wealth.

Apoklima House:
Houses 3,6,9 and 12 are called the Apoklima houses. Apoklima

Yogas made by Moon and with different planets:

Amala Yoga: This yoga is formed when 10th from Moon or Lagna is occupied by a benefic planet.
Native born in the yoga will achieve lasting fame and reputation. His character will be spotless and
will lead a prosperous life.

Sunapha Yoga: This yoga is formed when planet other than sun is posited in 2nd position from
moon. Native will be intelligent, wealthy, having self earned property. He will enjoy good reputation.

Anapha Yoga: This yoga is formed when a planet other than sun is posited in 12th position from
moon. The native will have well- formed organs, majestic appearance, polite, generous. He will be
enjoying good reputation and will be successful in politics.
Yogas

Dhurdhura Yoga: This yoga is formed when planets other than sun are posited on either side of
moon. Native will be blessed with wealth and enjoy good conveyances.

Kemadruma Yoga: This yoga is formed when there are no planets on either side of moon. The native
will be dirty, sorrowful, interested in unrighteous deeds, poor, dependent, rogue and swindler.

Kemadruma Bhanga Yoga

If moon and venus are in quadrant and aspected by Jupiter
Strong moon is in exaltation or in own sign.
Moon being posited in Navamsha Sign of his intimate friend is expected by Jupiter.

Gaja Kesari Yoga: The yoga is formed when jupiter is in quadrant from moon. Native born in the yoga
with have many relations, will be polite and generous and will be builder of village or town. He will
be prosperous, renowned and will have reputation long lasting even after death.
Yogas

Yogas made by Sun and with different planets:

If sun is placed in Kendra (1,4,7,10) from the moon then the person will be less
wealthy, less intelligent and less clever.

If sun is placed in Panfer (2,5,8,11) from the moon then the person will be
average wealthy, average intelligent and average clever.

If sun is placed in Aapoklim (3,6,9,12) from the moon then the person will be
wealthy, intelligent and very clever.
Yogas

Vasi Yoga: This Yoga is formed when planet other than moon occupies 12th
position from sun. The native born in the yoga is happy, prosperous, liberal
and favorite of govt.

Vesi Yoga: This yoga is formed when planet other than moon occupies 2nd
position from sun. The native born in the yoga will be fortune, happy, virtuous,
famous and aristocratic.

Obhaya chari Yoga: This yoga is formed when planets other than moon are
present on either side of sun. The native born in this yoga shall be eloquent
speaker having well proportional limbs. He will be liked by others, prosperous
and famous.
Yogas

Panchmaha Purusha Yoga :

Hamsa Yoga: For this yoga, Jupiter should be in quadrant which should be his
own or exaltation sign. Native born in this yoga will be very powerful like a
king. He will have marks of conch, lotus, fish on ankles and legs. He will have a
handsome body and will be immensely rich. He will be liked by others. He will
be righteous in disposition and pure in mind.

Bhadra Yoga: For this yoga, Mercury should be in quadrant which should be his
own or exaltation sign. The native born in this yoga is strong, having a lion - like
face, well developed chest, well proportioned limbs. He will help relatives and
will have a very long life. The native with such yoga is intelligent, learned, gifted
with wealth.
Yogas

Ruchaka Yoga: For this yoga, Mars should be in quadrant which should be his
own or exaltation sign. Native born in this yoga will have strong built, famous,
well - versed in ancient lore, equal to king and conforming to traditions and
customs. He will have a ruddy complex, attractive body, charitable disposition,
wealthy, long - lived and leader of an army.

Malavya Yoga: For this yoga, Venus should be in quadrant which should be
his own or exaltation sign. The native born in this yoga shall have a strong
physique and a strong mind. He will be wealthy and blessed with a good wife
and children. He will enjoy good conveyance, comforts and pleasures.
He will be renowned and learned.

Sasa Yoga: For this yoga, Saturn should be in quadrant which should be his
own or exaltation sign. The native born in this yoga shall command good
servants and will be of questionable character. He will be head of a village or
town, will cover other’s riches and will be wicked in disposition.
Yogas

Few extra Yoga :

Parvata Yoga: This yoga is formed when lord of lagna is posited in quadrant or
trine identical with his own sign, mool - trikona sign or exaltation sign. native
born in the yoga shall be prosperous, wealthy, liberal, charitable, humorous
and head of town or village.

Kahala Yoga: This is formed if 4th and 9th houses are in kendra from each
other and lord of lagna is strongly disposed. Native will be stubborn, daring
head of an organization.

Sankha Yoga: This yoga is formed if lord of 5th and 6th houses are in mutual
quadrant and lord of lagna is powerful. Native will be fond of pleasures,
blessed with good wife and children, learned in sciences, doing good deeds,
having long life.
Yogas

Few extra Yoga :

Chamar Yoga: This yoga is formed when lagna lord in exaltation is posited in
quadrant and aspected by jupiter or benefics are posited in 7th, 9th and 10th
houses. Native will be good orator, intelligent, successful in politics, and
having long life.

Lakshmi Yoga: This yoga is formed when lagna lord is strong and lord of 9th
house occupies own or exaltation sign identical with quadrant or trine. The
native will be wealthy, noble, learned and handsome and will enjoy all
comforts of life.
Yogas

Few extra Yoga :

Viprit Rajyoga: when 6th,8th and 12th lord is placed in 6th, 8th, and
12th house then they form viprit rajyog. It can be of 3 types

Harsh: when 6th lord is placed in 8th or in 12th house

Saral: when 8th lord is placed in 6th or in 12 th house
Vimal: when 12th lord is placed in 6th or in 8th house. 6th, 8th and 12th
house are known as Trik houses so as result of being lord of these houses
they will destroy the houses where so ever they may placed that is why
this house is Viprit raj yoga.
Transits Or Gochar
Introduction to Transits

Gohara is a current planetary transit. Gochara of the planets is determined from the natal moon sign. Gochara should also be
analysed along with the mahadasha and antardasha predictions. The Gochara transits of Jupiter, Saturn are extremely
important. If the mahadasha and antardasha are not favourable, but if the Jupiter and Saturn transits are favourable for entire
year, then the person gets completely protected that year.

Gochara of mercury is very important for predicting the Stock Market trends. Mercury normally retrogrades 3 times in a year.
Mercury retrograde can create lot of turbulence and downward trend in the stock market. However, when it gets combust
during the retrogression, the effects of the retrograde will diminish. In other words, the market tends to get better.

When the mercury is out of retrogarde, the markets normally stabilize. If a horoscope is analyzed with Gochara transit of
planets along with the mahadasha and antardasha, the predictions will be more accurate. Here are some examples: If a person
is struggling for a job and mahadasha and antardasha are moderately favourable, then look if the Sun is placed in 3, 6, 10, or 11
houses in the Gochara and aspected by Jupiter.

Similarly, Jupiter or Rahu in 12th will easily give foreign travel during that year.
Gochara Vedha

Sometimes, a planet in the Gochara transit may not be able to give full benefic influence, inspite of transiting a favourable
house in Gochara. This is due to obstruction of some other planet. This is called Gochara Vedha. The Gochara Vedha can
diminish the positive effects of a particular planet during that transit.

For example when Jupiter is transiting the 2nd house, he gives very favourable results, but there is some other planet in the
12th house from the natal moon, then positive effects of jupiter's 2nd house transit from the natal moon are diminished. The
extent, to which the positive effects can be reduced, varies from a person to person based on the Karmas. So, if there are 2
people A and B with the same Rashi, and Jupiter is transiting the 2nd house in Gochara.

If there is a planet in 12th house causing Vedha, both the Person A and B will not get the 100% results of Jupiter's benefic
transit in 2nd house. Person A may receive only 80% of jupiter's Gochara transit benefic rays, while person B may get only
60% of jupiter's Gochara transit benefic rays because jupiter is under Gochara Vedha and will not give 100% benefic results.
Gochara Vedha

When a planet transits over a benefic house from natal Moon it gives good results. However if at the same time another planet
transits from obstructing house, the good results are converted into bad. Good results will not be obtained till the planet does
not leave the obstructing house. However it should also be seen whether the transiting planet is still on auspicious house from
Moon or not .

If the planet leaves the auspicious house and obstructing planet also leaves the obstructing house, the auspicious planet will
not be effective. The reverse of above rule is also valid. If a planet transits on obstructing house, bad results are obtained. At
the same time if a planet travels on an auspicious house, bad results of former planet are neutralized.

This is called reverse vedha or vaam vedha.

The Use of Transits for Predictions

In Vedic astrology, transits (Gochar) refer to the current movements of planets in the sky and their impact on an individual's natal
chart. Analyzing transits is crucial for making predictions about future events, as planets influence different areas of life
depending on which houses they transit and how they interact with natal planets.
Each planet has a unique impact during its transit. For instance, Saturn's transit is slow and significant, often bringing challenges,
delays, or lessons, especially during Sade Sati (Saturn's transit over the natal Moon). Jupiter's transit, being more benevolent,
usually brings growth, opportunities, and expansion in the areas it influences.

The effect of a transit is determined by the house it occupies, the aspects it forms with natal planets, and the inherent nature of
the planet itself. For example, Mars' transit may energize or create conflicts in the house it passes through, while Venus' transit
might enhance relationships and creativity.
The Use of Transits for Predictions

Benefic transits (Jupiter, Venus) over important houses or planets often bring positive results, such as success, wealth, or
harmony. Malefic transits (Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu), on the other hand, might trigger challenges, obstacles, or transformations.

Transits are also analyzed in combination with the Dasha system (planetary periods) to fine-tune predictions. A favorable
Dasha combined with positive transits can amplify good results, while a challenging Dasha combined with tough transits can
indicate periods of hardship.

In essence, transits are a dynamic tool in astrology, helping to time events and understand the ebb and flow of life
experiences.
Sun Transit

Favourable in the 3rd, 6th, 10th, 11th positions.

Unfavourable in the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 12th positions.
Vedha Houses : 9, 12, 4, 5

1) If Ravi is in 1st house, then, the person will suffer from ill health, loss of wealth, will have to wander and toil for nothing.
Check for the rise in blood pressure and heart diseases if aspected by Rahu during that period.

2) If Ravi is in 2nd house, the person will suffer from loss of wealth, will suffer from eye problems etc. There may be some

8. Kaal Sarp Yoga: It is formed when all planets are placed between Rahu and Ketu. It is considered a challenging yoga,

In Hindu astrology, a unit of time of two Ghatis or 48 minutes is called one Muhurat.This is the time selected at a specific
hour to start a job. Such a time is selected keeping in view the good planetary combinations available for the particular
piece of work.

The position of Sun and Moon are most important because various factors in fixing of a Muhurat depend on the position
of the Sun and Moon. Various components of Muhurat like Aayan, month, Vaar, Tithi, Yoga, Karana, Nakshatra, Lagna all
depend on the movement of sun and moon.

Here we shall discuss the Yogas formed by the Sun and Moon. Vedic Astrology says that just as a coin has 2 sides,
astrological Yogas also have 2 dimensions. An astrological Yoga cannot be necessarily categorised as either auspicious
or inauspicious.

Let’s understand how Suriya Siddhant Yogas are formed due to the combination of the Sun and the Moon. According to
mathematical astrology the circumference of this universe is 360 degrees (The zodiac is circular).
Combinations Formed by the Sun and Moon

In this zodiac various planetary combinations are formed of which Sun and Moon combinations form the Surya Siddhant
Yoga. A distance of 13 degrees and 20 minutes is required for these combinations, i.e. every combination between Sun
and Moon should be take place at a distance of 13 degrees and 20 minutes.
The first such Sun Moon combination formed is called Vishkumbha yoga. The second Yoga of this type is the Preeti
Yoga. It is formed at 26 degrees and 40 minutes in the zodiac.

positive, while those with inauspicious names are negative. Astrology says that amongst the 27 Yogas there are 9
inauspicious Yogas and all holy ceremonies should be avoided during the period of these malefic Yogas. The malefic
Yogas are: -

Vishkumbha: 1st three Ghatis or one hour and twelve minutes.

Atigand: First six Ghatis or two hour twenty four minutes.
Shool: First five Ghatis or two hours.

Though only certain portion of time is mentioned as bad in these Yogas,but in practice these Yogas are avoided while
selecting Muhurat.The malefic time for these Yogas have been calculated presuming an average time of sixty Ghatis for
each Yoga and this can be proportionately increased or decreased depending on actual time of Yoga. These Yogas will
provide the desired result only when the native performs unjustified malignant tasks.

Sade Sati is a period in the life of an individual, spanning approximately seven and a half years, which is dubiously associated
with difficulties and challenges. Sade Sati starts with the entry of planet Saturn or Shani in the zodiac sign immediately before
the janma rasi (zodiac sign of moon as per native's birth chart). The period ends with the exit of Shani from the zodiac sign
immediately following the zodiac of moon. Shani takes two and a half years to transit each zodiac and therefore takes a total of
seven and a half years to exit the third zodiac. When planet Saturn transit at (Gochara) over Natal Moon or twelfth or second
from it, it is called Sade Sati or Elinati Shani. Saturn transits in these three signs for about 7.5 years and this period is generally
considered as a period of disturbance (financial, social, health, and emotional issues). Moon moves at 2.5 days per sign while
Saturn moves at 2.5 years per sign.
