Crochet Applique

Unicorn
Size: 14x15 sm = 5.5x5.9 in
Crochet Hook Size: 2.5-3.0mm (US size C/2–E/4) or
according to the yarn.

Materials You'll Need:


- Yarn for applique. I used fine weight cotton and acrylic blend,
160m/50g (174yds/50g). Colors: White, Yellow, Pink, Light Pink, Blue
and Black.
- 2 black buttons.

Abbreviations:
MR - Magic Ring
Rnd - Round
ch – Chain Stitch
sc - Single Crochet
hdc - Half Double Crochet
dc - Double Crochet
inc – Increase
dec - Decrease
sts - Stitches
sl st – Slip Stitch
Instructions

Head
Working in the round;
Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each
row.

With White Color,

Rnd 1: ch 4 + ch 1 to climb (work around both sides of the chain) (5


sts);
Rnd 2: in the second ch from hook, 3 sc, 3 sc in the same ch base
(would be the 4 ch of the chain without counting the ch to climb) –
continue crochet in a continuous round around all the chain - 2 sc, 2 sc
in the same ch base (would be the 1ch of the chain but the other side
– do not count the ch to climb) (10 sts);
Rnd 3: 1 inc, 2 sc, 3 inc, 2 sc, 2 inc (16 sts);
Rnd 4: 1 sc, 1 inc, 2 sc, (1 sc, 1 inc) x3, 2 sc, (1 sc, 1 inc) x2 (22 sts);
Rnd 5: 2 sc, 1 inc, 2 sc, (2 sc, 1 inc) x3, 2 sc, (2 sc, 1 inc) x2 (28 sts);

Rnd 5: 2 sc.
Sl St, leave a long tail for sewing.
Ears (Make 2)
With White Color,

Rnd 1: ch 4 + ch 1 to climb (ch 5);


Rnd 2: in the second ch from hook, 3 sc, 5 hdc in the ch base, (would
be the 4 ch of the chain without counting the ch to climb) – continue
crochet in a continuous round around all the chain - 3 sc (11 sts).
Leave a long tail for sewing.

With Light Pink Color,

Rnd 1: ch 8 + ch 1 to climb (ch 9);


Rnd 2: in the second ch from hook, 1 sl st, 2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc (7 sts).
Leave a long tail for sewing.

With White Color,

Rnd 16: turn, 6 sc, 1 dec, ch 1 to climb (7 sts + ch 1);
Rnd 17-19: turn, 7 sc, ch 1 to climb (7 sts + ch 1);
Rnd 20: turn, 1 dec, 5 sc, ch 1 to climb (6 sts + ch 1);
Rnd 21-22: turn, 6 sc, ch 1 to climb (6 sts + ch 1);

Fasten off. Weave the ends.

Hooves (Make 2)
With Light Pink Color,

Rnd 1: ch 7 + ch 1 (ch 8);


Rnd 2: in the second ch from hook, 7 sc, ch 1 to climb (7 sts + ch 1);
Rnd 3: turn, 7 sc (7 sts).
Leave a long tail for sewing.
Tail (Make 3)

With Blue, Pink and Yellow Colors,

Rnd 1: ch 18 + ch 1 to climb (ch 19);


Rnd 2: in the second ch from hook, 1 sl st, 1 dec-sc, 5 hdc, 3 dc, 1 inc-dc,
1 dc, 1 inc-dc, 2 hdc, 1 sc, 1 sl st (19 sts).
Fasten off, weave the end.
Crest

Small (Make 2) with Blue and Yellow Colors,

Rnd 1: ch 8 + ch 1 to climb (ch 9);

With Blue, Pink and Yellow Colors,

Rnd 2: in the second ch from hook, 1 sl st, 1 dec-sc, 3 sc, 2 inc-hdc, 1 sc,
1 sl st (11 sts).
Fasten off, weave the end.
Star

Working in the round.

With Yellow Color,

Rnd 1: 5 sc in a MR (5 sts);
Rnd 2: 1 inc x5 (10 sts);
Rnd 3: (1 sl st, ch 3, in the second ch from hook, 1 sl st, 1 sc, 1 sl st in
the next sc) x5 times.
Leave a long tail for sewing.
Assemble
Look at the photo.

First you need to make a layout.


Sew a head to the body.
Sew ears to the head.
Sew a crest.

Back side
Sew a tail.
Sew a muzzle, horn and hooves.
Sew a star.
Sew eyes (2 black buttons) and embroider the
nostrils, eyelashes and legs.
