Fajardo from the Department of the Interior and


Local Government Emergency 911 National Office delivered the
opening remarks.

 Dr. Richelle P. Abellera from the Department of Health Epidemiology


Bureau provided an overview of the monkeypox (MPX) situation,
including global and Philippine case statistics.

 Dr. Juan Javier F. Garchitorena from the Health Emergency


Management Bureau was introduced to discuss the management and
care pathways for MPX cases.

 The meeting involved representatives from various agencies, including


ambulance service providers, patient navigation and referral units, and
the Department of Health.

 An opening prayer was conducted before the start of the meeting.

 Participants were requested to rename themselves with their facility or


agency name and their name for attendance purposes.

 The World Health Organization declared MPX as a public health


emergency of international concern in 2022 and again in 2024 due to a
surge in cases in some African countries.

 As of September 17, 2024, there were 106,310 confirmed MPX cases,


including 234 deaths, reported globally across 123 countries and
territories.

 In the Philippines, a total of 32 confirmed MPX cases have been


reported from 2022 to 2024, with 23 cases detected in 2024 alone.

 The Department of Health (DOH) has created an MPox Task Force led
by Secretary Ted Herbosa to coordinate the response to the MPox
outbreak.
 The DOH has released guidelines on prevention, detection,
management, and response to MPox cases, including guidelines for
workplaces and high-risk establishments.
 The DOH aims to control the ongoing transmission of MPox and
maintain zero mortality among cases.
 The DOH is preparing for potential scenarios, including the detection of
the more severe Clade 1B variant and the possibility of community-
wide transmission.
 The DOH is enhancing surveillance, contact tracing, and laboratory
testing capabilities for MPox.
 The DOH is conducting capacity-building activities to train health
workers on MPox case management.
 The DOH is prioritizing the allocation of funds for the MPox response,
with an estimated cost of around 190 million pesos.
 The DOH is actively negotiating with other countries for the supply of
antiviral treatments and vaccines for MPox.
 The DOH is collaborating with the World Health Organization (WHO)
and other international partners to enhance testing capabilities and

secure access to biologics for MPox.
