KARNATAKA TRIBES

1. A life-size installation of the Deevara community has also been

erected.“Deevaras worked on the farms of landowners in Shivamogga. While
the landowner lived in an all- season terracotta house, the servants lived in a
hut right next to them and worked in the farms and took care of the livestock,”
Rudrappa says. The Lokmath Mandira building preserves all the artefacts that
continue to be used in rural areas in kitchens, homes and in daily life.

2. Colour photographs of Hasalaru, Gondaru, Siddis, Koragas and several other

tribes from North and South Karnataka in the midst of hunting, dancing or
celebrating occasions are put up.

3. “The Siddhi tribe were African slaves brought here by the Portuguese to serve
them during the colonial era. They stayed on, even after their masters left and
have become part of Karnataka, speaking even better Kannada than us. They
live in Kumta, Joida, Ganeshgudi and other places,” Narasimaiah says.

4. “There are 70 tribes in Karnataka and 250 varieties of folk art and dance.
Nearly 5,000 teams of artistes exist and 8,000 such artistes have got training in
Janapada Loka in various Kunithas,”

TRIBAL MUSEUM BHOPAL

Location : Madhya pradesh bhopal

Architect : Revathi kamath
Year :2013
Area : 7 acres
Introduction :
● The Tribal Museum was established to serve as a meaningful bridge between diverse societal
perspectives, especially between urban and tribal ways of life, and to preserve and celebrate the
cultural heritage of India’s indigenous communities.
● The museum is divided into six different theme galleries showcasing traditional art, craft and
culture of various tribes of Madhya Pradesh like Gonds, Bhils, Bharias, Sahariya, Korku, Kol, and
Baiga.
● The Museum is designed to create a built fabric which the tribal communities could identify with,
extend, and evolve, to represent themselves and express their own ideas and way of life with ease
and spontaneity.

rchitecture/
https://www.kamathdesign.org/project/tribal-museum
● The galleries are raised above the ground on columns, forming a continuous,
multileveled veranda, following the contours of the sloping, rocky terrain.

● Courtyards puncture the built mass, bringing in light and air, while enabling
the roof forms to establish modulated scales and compositions.

● The structure is built of steel tubes, castellated girders, and steel rods
fabricated into intricate trusses. Steel seemed to be a natural choice in the
land & location of ancient Iron Age & Bronze Age civilizations, and the
contemporary truck body building industry.

● The walls use both local stone left exposed and brick plastered with crushed
stone on the outside and mud plaster on the inside. The roofs are made of
half-round tiles, galvalume sheets and concrete with a topping of grass and
groundcover.

● The landscape is designed to collect and store rainwater, to be used for both
cooling and irrigating the green roof, and gardens. The plant material is
composed of largely local forest species.

SIGNIFICANCE OF FOLK CULTURE
FOLKLORE

❏ "Folk" refers to the general people of the nation. "Lore" refers to the
collection of historical information. When these two terms are combined,
"folklore" refers to the culture that the locals have been incorporating into
their daily lives for ages. Their singing, art, craft, music, and other festive
acts all reflect it.

❏ The correct definition of folklore is the collection of beliefs, customs and

traditions that people pass on from generation to generation. Folklore has
been around since the beginning of time. It includes fairy tales, legends,
myths, dances, games, riddles and superstitions etc.
