My perception regarding SBM (School- Based Management) is that it is a process by which
members of the school community conducts a thorough evaluation of their school’s educational
program in the previous school year and the development of a written school plan that
establishes in starting point from ongoing evaluation of efforts and it is like a road map that
establishes the changes that the school needs these changes will be made. It will serve as the
major bases of the Division Education Development Plan (DEDP). I learned also that SBM was
anchored on the decentralization trend of the 70’s.A framework of governance, transfer of power
and authority as well as resources to the school head on the assumption that the school heads
including teachers, key leaders in the community, parents know the root and solution to the
problems. In the Philippine setting SBM was officially implemented of a governance framework
of DepEd with the passage of RA 9155 in 70 (as legal cover). It is a strategy to improve
education by transferring significant decision-making authority from state and district offices to
individual.
For me, SBM is an effective mechanism to improve the quality of education in the basic level.
This SBM is a viable structural reform intervention used to improve the quality of education in
the public school to produce functionally literate Filipinos. As an educator we are guided on the
following principles in which we can improve or develop our school and most importantly the
academic performance our learners’ .In here we can attest the extent or the level how far our
school has gone. Developing or matured. In SBM, it categorizes school basing their
performance. It also serves as a guide in order to track our performance. In our Maasin City
Division I‘ve known a school who was already reached the level 3 in SBM, it was Maasin City
Sped Center with their endeavour and perseverance to achieve excellence they are now reaping
the fruits of their labour. This school will serve as an inspiration for us by them we can
benchmark their practices and strategies in achieving success.
