Ques 1 Two coins are tossed simultaneously. What is the probability of getting

(i) At least one head?


(ii) At most one tail?
(iii) A head and a tail?

Ques 2 A number ‘x’ is selected from the numbers 1, 2, 3 and then second number y’ is
selected from the numbers 1, 4, 9. Find the probability that the product xy of the two
numbers is less than 9.

Ques 3 Two customers are visiting a particular shop in the same week (Monday to
Saturday). Each is equally likely to visit the shop on any one day as on another. Find the
probability that both will visit the shop:

(A) The same day


(B) Different days
(C) consecutive days.

Ques 4 Naima is playing a game and has two identical 6-sided dice. The faces of the dice
have 3 even numbers and 3 odd numbers.
She has to roll the two dice simultaneously and has two options to choose from before
rolling the dice. She wins a prize if:

Option 1: the sum of the two numbers appearing on the top of the two dice is odd.
Option 2: the product of the two numbers appearing on top of the two dice is odd.

Which option should Naima choose so that her chances of winning a prize is higher?

Ques 5 One card is drawn from a well shuffled deck of 52 cards. Find the probability of
getting

(i) a face card or a black card


(ii) neither an ace nor a king
(iii) a jack and a black card

Ques 6 A piggy bank contains hundred 50-p coins, seventy 1 coin, fifty 2 coins and thirty 5
coins. If it is equally likely that one of the coins will fall out when the bank is turned upside
down, what is the probability that the coin

(i) will be a 1 coin?


(ii) will not be a 5 coin
(iii) will be 50 – p or a 2 coin?
Ques 7 A square dartboard has sections numbered from 1 to 12 as shown below. Players
have to make a prediction and throw a dart. They win if their dart lands on the section that
matches their prediction.

Arya says, “My dart will land on a composite number.”


Bashir says, “My dart will land on an even number.”
Cathy says, “My dart will land on a factor of 12.”

Calculate the probability of each of their predictions occurring and determine who has the
highest chances of winning. Show your work.
