1. State your own opinion or view why there is a need to study philosophy?

Answer:

Philosophy means love of wisdom and wisdom means knowledge while

knowledge refers to facts, information, and skills gained by individual from its
experience, and education. Philosophy is a way of thinking about certain subjects such
as ethics, thought, existence, time, meaning and value. The study of philosophy helps
us to enhance our ability to solve problems, our communication skills, our persuasive
powers, and our writing skills. Philosophy is provocative, enlightening, and meaningful
and it helps us to understand things are not always what they seem, it helps us also
to learn about ourselves and the world. By studying philosopy, we will learn to think
better, to act more wisely, and thereby will help improve the quality of our lives. Also
by studing it it will help us develop different various important skills such as:

• General Problem Solving Skill

Studying philosophy will enhance a person’s problem-solving capacities. This
will help us to analyze concepts, definitions, arguments, and problems. This will
contribute our capacity to organize ideas and issues, to deal with questions of
value, and to extract what is essential from large quantities of information. It will
also help up to distinguish fine and subtle differences between views and, on
the other hand, to discover common ground between opposing positions. It will
also help us to synthesize a variety of views or perspectives into one unified
whole.

• Communicartion Skills
Philosophy contributes uniquely to the development of expressive and
communicative powers. It will provide some of the basic tools of self-
expression. Like in instance, skills in presenting ideas through well-constructed,
systematic arguments, that other fields either do not use or use less
extensively. Philosophy helps us also to express what is distinctive in our views,
it enhances our ability to explain difficult material, and it helps us to eliminate
ambiguities and vagueness from our writing and speech.

• Persuasive Powers
Philosophy provides training in the construction of clear formulations, good
arguments, and appropriate examples. It helps us to develop our ability to be
convincing. We will learn to build and defend our own views, to appreciate
competing positions, and to indicate forcefully why we consider our own views
preferable to alternatives. These capacities can be developed not only through
reading and writing in philosophy, but also through the philosophical dialogue,
both within and outside the classroom.

• Writing Skills
Philosophy teaches interpretive writing through its examination of challenging
texts, comparative writing through emphasis on fairness to alternative positions,
argumentative writing through developing one’s ability to establish from their
own views, and descriptive writing through detailed portrayal of concrete
examples. Concrete examples serve as the anchors to which generalizations
must be tied. Structure and technique are also emphasized in philosophical
writing. Originality is also encouraged which will help us develop our
imagination to develop our own ideas. In studying philosophy has intrinsic
rewards as an unlimited quest for understanding of important, challenging
problems.

• Understanding Other Disciplines

Philosophy is indispensable for our ability to understand disciplines. Many
important questions about discipline, such as the nature of its concepts and its
relation to other disciplines, are philosophical in nature. Philosophy of science,
for example, is needed to supplement the understanding of the natural and
social sciences that derives from scientific work itself. Philosophy of literature
and philosophy of history are of similar value in understanding the humanities,
and philosophy of art is important in understanding both the visual and the
performing arts. Philosophy is also essential in assessing the various standards
of evidence used by other disciplines. Since all fields of knowledge employ
reasoning and must set standards of evidence, logic and epistemology have a
general bearing on all these fields.

• Development of Sound Methods of Research and Analysis

Still another value of philosophy in education is its contribution to our capacity
to frame hypotheses, to do research, and to put problems in manageable form.
Philosophical thinking strongly emphasizes clear formulation of ideas and
problems, selection of relevant data, and objective methods for assessing ideas
and proposals. It also emphasizes development of a sense of the new
directions directions suggested by new hypotheses and questions one
encounters while doing research.

2. What are the concerns of practical men based on your own observation
of how an ordinary life is lived by everyone? In relation to it, why
philosophy is a shame for others?

Answer:

Russell explicitly addresses the "practical man" who only recognizes philosophy
as a pursuit of "hair-splitting distinctions" and irrelevant trifling. Viewing philosophy
thus is a result of having a "wrong conception of the ends of life" and "the kinds of
goods which philosophy strives to achieve." Russell contrasts the utility of philosophy
with that of the physical sciences. The goods of the minds are just important as the
goods of the body, the importance of having a good of the minds or having a
philosophical find gives someone a levelof knowledge that extends beyond the daily
grind to a vital understanding of life and the universe which help us to develop our
reasoning skills by enhancing our ability to reason which is also essential to one’s life.

Practical men express their interest in items they need and value their money
properly. A practical man will buy raw food rather than fast food. Instead of taking
you to a fancy dining restaurant where you cannot appreciate the meal, it will
provide you with a happy and budget-friendly date. They spend their money, which
will provide them their satisfaction at a practical price. They are the individuals
that want their future to be secured. Some people have been ashamed of
philosophy since it makes them realize their flaws. Philosophy explains
every circumstance they do not want to be changed in their lives. Their
misdeeds which they see correctly are easily explained by their philosophy, that
their audacity is not to recognize that they are wrong. Philosophy explains every
condition in their life that they do not wish to change. Their sins, which they properly
observe, are simply justified by their ideology, which states that their boldness is in
refusing to admit that they are mistaken.
